Has anyone recently been on Explorer of the Seas as a Gold Card holder? If so, is there still reserved seating pool side?

Just got off in Perth after our first cruise ever and it was on explorer. :-)

The area that was roped off was behind the 2 main pools on the same deck with signs saying gold cards only. Comfy padded seats. We sat there during the 'crossing the equator ' skit but didn't stay any longer because there is no shade. Hardly saw anyone sit there, asked others and all gave the same reason, no shade.

Just did my on-line survey from RC and commented on this as one of the very few things we didn't like.
