Nearly ready to go

Recommended Posts

Hi all read loads of things on here and we head off on Thursday for our first cruise. We are flying to Dubrovnik and get taken to the ship. We have booked online have our boarding passes but no luggage labels do we get them at the Thompson desk in Gatwick airport?

When we get to the ship do we have to queue to get on board, what do we need apart from confirmation & passports?

Thanks, very excited and started packing, 3 more days of work:)

Although we've never sailed from Dubrovnik, the standard procedure on every cruise we've done is much the same.

Luggage labels for the ship are distributed when you arrive port area, so the crew know where to take your cases.

There will be a large reception area at the port facility where you will be "processed" by Thomsons staff before embarking.

-

This involves queuing, can't be avoided, however it usually doesn't take too long - unless their computer systems fail, which we have experienced.

Passport checks, facial photo taken for security etc.etc. - and the all important (for them) registration of your credit or debit card, or cash arrangements to settle your onboard account.

Not forgetting the illness declaration form which is a bit of a farce although they have to go through the procedures.

Its different at Dubrovnik you will receive your cabin location tickets at the airport and not see your cases again until on the ship. We checked in on the ship, in the dinning room but I know others have checked in off ship I think it all depends were its docked. You will probably have to register your cards for payments unless you are leaving cash at reception. Have a great time and look out for big Ray in Kara La:)

We went to Celebration in Dubrovnik from Bristol airport. In June .....we checked in online and in theory just had to drop bags at the bag drop......you just need passports and check in paperwork. We were given cabin labels then because your bags go straight to the Ship.

When you arrive at Dubrovnik you go straight to the exit and to the coach....no luggage collection.

Half an hour or so drive to port and straight on board to the queue for check in which was done in the reception area (although I think this may have changed since June) very quick and our cabin was ready (11.00 ish)

All very well organised!:)

Celebration was our first cruise and we loved it. Just been back on her last month and had a great time. She is an old lady compared to.some of the big modern ships, but with a friendly crew, good food and excellent entertainment, I'm sure you will be hooked, as we all are ;)
