lobokai Posted September 28, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2005 Am booked in Suite 8130 (which is in the back of the ship with what appears to be a large balcony) Dec 10-18th WEstern Caribbean. Was on Norwegian ship (can't remember name ) in 1999 on 50's cruise. Do the suites have CD players in the rooms? Believe this suite has access to butler and concierge. What are the benefits to a butler and/or concierge? Also, since I am trying to learn to play guitar (okay I'm 58 so won't be rocking out unless I learn Stevie Ray Vaughn's "The Sky is Crying" -ha!) so am wondering if there is a hookup in the suite so I can bring my small amplifier. I've been on Carnival, Princess, HOlland America, Royal Caribbean and I love Norwegian the best. Anyone who has been in the AE suites on 8th deck would appreciate any feedback. Thanks. shoreguy Posted September 29, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2005 butler and/or concierge, dvd/cd/mp3 player are all part of the AE. More important the best view on the Jewel IMHO. Arnie should be your butler, Ruth the concierge. not sure what you need for a hookup but there are inputs on the DVD player for audio
lobokai Posted September 30, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted September 30, 2005 Thanks Shoreguy for info. Would it be considered in good taste to tip butler and concierge above and beyond what NCL charges per day as gratuity? Back in 1999 we had to deal with the envelopes for everyone. Have not been on NCL since but looking forward to it.
Markandrews Posted October 1, 2005 #4 Share Posted October 1, 2005 The Butlers and conceirge are not in the tip pool with dining room staff and room stewards. We tipped them on the last night of the cruise as you would on a traditional ship. We thought Ruth was great but we thought Arnie was not the best. lobokai Posted October 2, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted October 2, 2005 What exactly does the concierge do? Have been on Princess and Holland America where the concierge was located in a private room accessible by suite guest's room keys. Other than snacks I was unaware of just what their function was. What does the concierge do on the Jewel? Thanks.
Markandrews Posted October 2, 2005 #6 Share Posted October 2, 2005 Ruth and Claudio made all of our dinner reservations, escorted us to our seats in the lounge and helped us with a party. Claudio, (who is now on the Dawn) came by each day to see if there was anything we needed. We were escorted off the ship by Ruth at the conclusion of our cruise. They will do anything you ask.
