Breakaway - Midship Balcony - Deck?

Advice needed:

Booked a Mid-ship Balcony (yay!) on Deck 13 (13210) for the Breakaway out of NYC on April 3, 2016 to FL/Bahamas.

This is a higher deck and I wanted to ask your opinion for those who have sailed the Breakaway and maybe have had a Balcony cabin.

I am wondering if I should change the cabin and go with Deck 8 or 9. The reason being is that when I sailed on the Dawn a few weeks ago, we had an inside cabin on Deck 11. We felt alot of movement up on the higher deck for one, and we mainly spent all of our time on Deck 6 and 7. The casino was on Deck 6 and Deck 7 has all the good bars/dining options/atrium. We noticed on the Breakway, those options seem to be on Deck 6,7, and 8.

What is your experience? Higher deck balcony or lower such as 8 or 9? The only good thing about being on Deck 13 and is that we would be closer to the pool area and the buffet.

Thanks all!

No experience yet, however I was asking myself this same question and finally decided to book deck 8 for our 8/16 cruise. All in all I think we'll like being closer to the bars, casinos and dining venues. Good luck with your decision[emoji41]

I was on Deck 13 (13222 if I remember correctly) on the Breakaway on an October 4th cruise and felt some movement--but that was in the wake of Hurricane Joaquin. There was also some movement on lower decks on that cruise. I liked Deck 13, but am not particularly sensitive to sea sickness. I also think a balcony cabin--with easy access to fresh air and a view--will lessen the ill effects of movement that may be more noticeable in an interior cabin (fresh air is a little-mentioned way to lessen motion sickness).

If I do decide to go with a lower deck I will let you know how it is as I am cruising a bit before you in April. :D

But same dilemma - love being close to all of the happening spots but may be quieter a few deck up!

Yes, seasickness wasn't a huge problem for me on my last cruise but I definitely had to figure out exactly where my sea-legs were. LOL

I did find them, the last few days, and luckily right before we hit the "rough" seas (10-15ft waves). Also, I was in an inside cabin which everyone was telling me would be the best for seasickness. I found it was not. As soon as I stepped outside on the 7th deck I felt immediately better. I needed fresh air.

How did you like your balcony cabin? I heard the balconies are very small on the Breakaway.

Balconies on the Breakaway were very small--smallest I have seen on any cruise ship. Not enough room to face the ocean comfortably--had to sit the the chair facing perpendicular to the railing to sit with one's feet up. It worked fine for me because I was sailing solo, but for a couple I think it would be crowded.

I did 11172 and it was perfect- also I did a mid on the other side of 10 perhaps 10772 or so??that worked out good. little noise on those decks, little extra traffic compared to 8 and 9 and 12 and 13 in my opinion

We are in 11174 on the Breakaway in May. Thought it would be a quieter deck.

Deck 14 is under the pool deck. Thought an upgrade to a mid-ship mini-suite would justify the location but it was noisy plus being on the starboard side, you could smell the smokers from the Waterfront, even though it's on deck 8. Plus the MS was same size of balcony cabin but maybe a slight larger bathroom.

We were on Breakaway in August, our CC got us Deck 13 advising us that if we wanted to have closer access to the pool, water slides, etc. this would be better, NOT deck 14 because of the staff sliding the deck chairs around above on Deck 15 where pool is. And yet, close enough if kids forgot something to go to pool or waterslides, they could easily go down the stairs to Deck 13 or elevator, just two floors. WORKED OUT GREAT !!! We got two Mid-ship balcony rooms, ONE was 13836, other 13838. Have to say that 13836 had an angled balcony, which does have a little more space, and if you can request that one on Deck 13 it was bigger in fact. We had NO issues with any movement, we were far enough away from the " noise of the bars and lounges" also. We were starboard, but we did not notice any smoke from outdoor waterfront. In fact, our son had the larger balcony room, has already booked for next year AND requested the exact same cabin room, he liked it so much. I think you can't go wrong with a Deck 13, mid ship balcony room, but as mentioned, if ANY way you can get a room with angled balcony, you will enjoy the little extra space.

We were in cabin 13218 in August and we were very pleased with Deck 13. I did not notice much movement of the ship at all and I liked that we were close to the pool deck and the buffet. We cruised with our three children and they liked the easy access to the pool and to the Splash.

Thanks all for your awesome input.

I was able to book that slightly larger angled cabin on deck 10, aft, 10296. Even though it's aft, it's a lower deck and a big ship, I should be okay with the movement. It's perfectly located near the elevators and a few decks from all the dining and entertainment venues.

If anyone has pictures of the angled balcony in this or similar cabins I'd love to take a look!

I love the rooms near aft.. I was on the 11th deck towards the aft.. Most of the action is between the midship elevator and Aft.. So it made everything so easy.. Longest walk was to vibe and for getting on and off at ports. It made the giant ship seem not so big.

We were in 10276 on BA. Easy access to stairs/lifts. Good choice for 10296.

Have a great cruise !! Loved our stateroom and larger balcony.

Safe Sailing !
