Richpontone Posted November 5, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 5, 2015 Been on the Gem twice. It is a good well kept ship. The LGBT meet up used to be called "The Friends of Dorothy" but they have changed that name since last year when my partner and I sailed on a Norwegian cruise ship. The meet up is usually hosted by a friendly bartender in a bar that is separate from the other cruisers so LBGT cruisers can talk with each other. My cruise last year was attended each day by say a dozen LBGT couples( I estimate it was about half of the LGBT couples on the cruise). You make your own connections with the other cruisers-which is hit or miss, depending on how outgoing you are. I suggest you go to the Cruise Critics Meet and Greet meeting which is held on the second day of the cruise. You can sign up for that on your ship's roll call. You might make more connections with the straight couples at this meeting which is also attended by the Ship's Captain, The Hotel Director and the Cruise Director. You will also get valueable tips about port excursions at that meeting. Hope that helps.
