rienreiter Posted September 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 30, 2005 Do all outside staterooms on the QM2 have portholes? Or do some have a picture window? If anyone knows, can you advise what category it is that has picture windows? The Cunard website does not indicate or inform and neither does the brochure. mufi Posted September 30, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 30, 2005 All have a minimum standard of picture window. David.
Calliope Posted October 1, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 1, 2005 The standard oceanview rooms on the QM2 have either a large porthole (see page 81 of the current 2005 deluxe Cunard brochure) or they have a large rectangular window (approx. 3.5 ft. x 2.25 ft.) A rule of thumb as to if the standard outside room has the porthole or the larger window is, the farther forward on the ship the room is the more likely it will have a porthole. Price does not matter either. The current C4 rooms have the larger windows while the more expensive C1 rooms have both types. No passenger staterooms on the QM2 have deadlights for use during rough weather. All balcony rooms, Princess and Queen's Grill rooms have large plate glass windows and doors. mufi Posted October 1, 2005 #4 Share Posted October 1, 2005 Calliope - Thanks for that. Are the porholes fully sealed or do they have the facility to be opened with a big spanner as on other ships. David.
Calliope Posted October 1, 2005 #5 Share Posted October 1, 2005 All of the portholes in passenger areas are sealed tight on the QM2. Now, on the QE2 at least some of the portholes can be open with the right equipment. Also on the lower decks the QE2 has deadlights over her portholes. Paul NH Posted October 1, 2005 #6 Share Posted October 1, 2005 Our C2 Cabin on Deck 5 had a porthole. I liked it the porthole - it added to the traditional ocean liner experience. Paul
