FitzLA Posted October 1, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2005 Okay, I know this is the RCCL page, but I thought if you didn't see these photos on the Carnival Page, you might enjoy them. This was the Ecstasy while at sea during Rita. http://community.webshots.com/album/463051526fxtCvC
p0mpey Posted October 1, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 1, 2005 I feel sea sick just looking at them! I have been so lucky on all 3 of my cruises....not sure how we would cope with seas like that! Ugh!
skyw Posted October 1, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 1, 2005 OMG !!!!!! The ship almost looks like a toy. Thanks for the pic's.

FunCruiser56 Posted October 1, 2005 #6 Share Posted October 1, 2005 Wonder where these pics were taken from- another ship? Bet they went through alot of dramamine and sea sick bags... Funcruiser
FitzLA Posted October 1, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted October 1, 2005 This ship and the Sensation were being used to house evacuees, so it was empty. It had been in New Orleans post Hurrican Katrina, and when Rita was on her way, they sent it out to sea until the storm passed. I think the pics were taken from either sensation or coast guard ship. Ohestu Posted October 1, 2005 #8 Share Posted October 1, 2005 I remember being on a ship that was getting tossed about like that when I was young. Military transport ship USS Gaffey between Hawaii and Japan, trying to outrun a Typhoon. Definately not fun.

cruz1234 Posted October 1, 2005 #10 Share Posted October 1, 2005 Those pictures make me sea sick! But I know being on the Gulf Coast hours from the storm, and the seas were kicking up here! So since they went out to sea to ride it out then it must have been terrible. Does look like a toy getting tossed around, and the sky is so gray. I know i would not want to be on a ship caught in a storm like that :( You don't want to mess with Mother Nature!
Ericknow32 Posted October 1, 2005 #11 Share Posted October 1, 2005 It kind of looks like fun to me. I am not sure I would want to go through it for an extended period of time but it would sure add some excitement to a cruise.
sandbag7 Posted October 1, 2005 #12 Share Posted October 1, 2005 These ships are so high in the water and weighty, they make the waves look small. I would much rather be on one of these ships than a fishing boat in moderate chop. THAT makes me sick.
bobbie0253 Posted October 1, 2005 #13 Share Posted October 1, 2005 I'm with Eric!!!! Looks like fun but, OMG....wow. Awesome pictures! Bobbie
FitzLA Posted October 1, 2005 Author #14 Share Posted October 1, 2005 I am having a hard time believing these are real pictures. Well, believe it. Why does there always have to be a non-believer? Anyway, the 2 ships, Ecstasy and Sensation were in New Orleans housing evacuees and resue workers. When Rita was on her way, they had to move the ship out to sea as the storm surge could have pushed the ships ashore. Anway, these were taken while riding out the storm at sea. Only people on board were crew members.
futaba951 Posted October 1, 2005 #15 Share Posted October 1, 2005 The pix were taken from the Sensation of the Ecstasy while off of Mobile Bay. They were trying to enter the port of Mobile but the seas were so rough the bar pilots were not able to board and so they never made it into port. They returned to NO after riding out the storm at sea off of Mobile. They reportedly had about 550 crew each and a little over 100 pax each that had stayed on board when they left NO. http://www.al.com/news/mobileregister/index.ssf?/base/news/1127640235114680.xml&coll=3 Ecstasy did survive and made it back to NO though. futaba951 Posted October 1, 2005 #16 Share Posted October 1, 2005 If they had seas like those during this episode they could have just done the stop, drop and roll routine.

CoronaCpl Posted October 1, 2005 #18 Share Posted October 1, 2005 Awesome! I guess this is what Grand Princess looked like in 2001 when we were aboard her between Hurricanes Iris and Jerry in 2001 ... fun stuff (NOT!)...
cincicruisers Posted October 1, 2005 #19 Share Posted October 1, 2005 WoW WoW... Not for the faint at heart. I am all for a few waves and the gentle rocking of the boat on a cruise, but this is extreme! Patches and bonine cant touch this!

peggyy Posted October 1, 2005 #22 Share Posted October 1, 2005 That would be the only time I'd pray to have the inside cabin, mid-ship, just above the water line.

racephoto Posted October 1, 2005 #25 Share Posted October 1, 2005 Great pics! We hit some rough seas enroute to Bermuda back in 2003, the Captain said the swells were about 20-25 feet. I have some pics of the surf in the pool, but nothing that would compare to this. Thanks so much for the link. Gail
