JLBellaCC Posted November 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2015 We are taking our first Carnival cruise soon. I was reading a review of someone on the Dream and the reviewer said when they arrived at their muster station only a couple people showed up- does Carnival not enforce that everyone must attend this drill? monakayk Posted November 15, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2015 Yes, they do enforce it. At least on the CCL Imagination cruise we just took in Oct. Cabins were checked to make sure pax were not 'hiding out' in them and not attending the drill.
cruiser fanatic Posted November 15, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2015 I just got off the Magic today. It is enforced. They were going around and checking people's rooms.

I was reading a review of someone on the Dream and the reviewer said when they arrived at their muster station only a couple people showed up- does Carnival not enforce that everyone must attend this drill? Yes they strongly enforce it. However, some try to hide in their stateroom or wherever. It's been my experience those who get caught end up having to attend or attend a not so special briefing. IMO 'only a couple people showed up' is not possible. Even if their muster station was in a club, theater, etc. No way!
sgb Posted November 16, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 16, 2015 No matter how many cruises a person has been on, they still have to attend. It is mandatory!!
OCruisers Posted November 16, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 16, 2015 It's STRONGLY enforced!

Impossible! Each muster station has a couple hundred people assigned to it. If only a couple people showed up that ship would not be going anywhere! bkerber Posted November 16, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 16, 2015 Yes they do an unfortunately you have to wait on them to do the checking until you can finish.
OCruisers Posted November 16, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 16, 2015 On our last Carnival cruise the advanced announcement came on saying there would be a Muster Drill and to go to your cabin for your like jacket and proceed to your muster station when the announcement/horns instructed you to do so. We had our life jackets on the bed and were sitting on our balcony awaiting the "Call to Muster". Security came barging into our cabin and banging on our balcony door telling us to get to muster NOW. We told them, no problem and that we would go immediately and explained why we were waiting like we always had in the past until the horns sounded. They were very RUDE and continued to yell at us to go NOW. We were some of first at our muster station and the horns didn't even sound for another five minutes so it make for a very long wait. thephillykid Posted November 16, 2015 #10 Share Posted November 16, 2015 Here is a question about the muster drill, a little bit off topic. We sail in January out of San Juan with a 10 PM sailing time. We plan on arriving in SJ around 3 pm and dropping off our stuff on board and then rebounding sometime close to the 10 PM sail time. When would the muster drill take place? TIA Howard

How long has it been since you sailed Carnival? Our first was September of 2011 (we have since completed 10 cruises) and we have never had to take the life jacket to mustard. Lerin Posted November 16, 2015 #13 Share Posted November 16, 2015 How odd, maybe they meant only a "couple" of crew or ship employees were there? Muster is required and enforced. EVERYONE is there. Depending on your station it can be quite crowded.

I understand that it is because people were not securing the straps causing others to trip over them on the mad post muster dash.

WLHyatt Posted November 16, 2015 #17 Share Posted November 16, 2015 I've never been in a muster that wasn't at least somewhat full of people. The least crowded I've seen was on the Dream in the midship dining room upstairs. Every seat was taken and it was HOT in there. But that's what I get for sailing from New Orleans in May. cruzelover55 Posted November 16, 2015 #18 Share Posted November 16, 2015 Last time I had to haul a life jacket to the drill was 2002 on the Sensation out of Tampa. It was on an outside deck, everyone standing, crowded and HOT! I surely don't mind the way they do it now. In an air-conditioned theater, sitting, or showroom, whatever. Just a talk and demo. Just wish people would get there promptly as quicker you get there, quicker you can leave. I refuse to let myself get annoyed, as it used to be worse. Enjoy your cruise! mapsmith Posted November 16, 2015 #19 Share Posted November 16, 2015 The small crowd MIGHT have been the handicapped muster, or it might have been a supplemental muster if they boarded at a later port. But out of Galveston??? No. Way. And To PhillyKid. Remember you have to be on board an hour before sailaway. So if you show up around 10PM, you may very well be left behind.\

mapsmith Posted November 16, 2015 #21 Share Posted November 16, 2015 My wife will make sure that i'm on board at 7...thanks Shouldn't be a problem since Sheraton Old San Juan closed the casino. You have to go to Condado to gamble before the cruise, now. But that Puerto Rican Rum can do a number on one's ability to tell time.
NHNEV2003 Posted November 16, 2015 #22 Share Posted November 16, 2015 Send that review link. I'd love to see that. . Actually the review states that the people came later than the time it was supposed to start.
bakersdozen12 Posted November 16, 2015 #23 Share Posted November 16, 2015 Actually the review states that the people came later than the time it was supposed to start. I believe it was my review that this person is speaking of, and what I said was that my husband and I were the only ones at the muster station at the time it was supposed to start. Being first time cruisers, it made me wonder if we were even in the correct place. People eventually showed up, but not until closer to a half hour later, about the time the ship was supposed to sail away. And at no time did Carnival staff do any kind of roll call or checking to see who was there and who wasn't. So I honestly don't know how they would have known if someone skipped it.
