M & J Posted December 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 12, 2015 After having some great times on the Island Escape, is this ship going to be as relaxed and friendly. Local travel agent wasn't sure!
stelin34 Posted December 12, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 12, 2015 Hi M&J we did the I E for the last 2 years and now gone for the majesty .From the info I've been given on here it's lthe same kind of atmosphere and entertainment. But I think all Thomson ships are the same ,just different ages,. If I'm wrong other members of the forum will correct me. I hope
M & J Posted December 12, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted December 12, 2015 Hi Stelin34 thanks for the reply and info. Rained all day here, got us in the mood to book a cruise. May look for one on the Discovery as ex Royal Caribbean ship and may have a few extras. Unless anyone knows different?
mtt Posted December 13, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 13, 2015 The discovery is going to be the new thomson flagship my ta says its a new level of cruising for thomsonquite upmarket, nothing like the ie, island cruises ended with the ie which was a first choice ship not thomson. totally different entertainment as they use a different agency ai is not included like the ie, you have to pay unless you make an early booking and get it free
mtt Posted December 13, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 13, 2015 The thomson ships have one formal night not compulsary, no shorts and jeans though in the main dining room in the evening but they do have buffet restaurants
stelin34 Posted December 13, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 13, 2015 I stand corrected as to the owners of IE .However I think that a lot of her x passengers would go for the majesty and the fact that it is not only the entertainment team that makes an enjoyable but fellow passengers.I would imagine the majesty would be the closest thing to it ,which is why I suggested her,. After all that is the advice M&J was looking for.
M & J Posted December 13, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted December 13, 2015 Hi, not seen the place to put the ships we have travelled on previously- sorry. Last week, P&O Oceana, last summer, IE, to name but two. The Majesty you say sounds closest to the IE, that's what we want, thank you. CRUISIN LINDA Posted December 13, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 13, 2015 Actually Island Escape was the only ship owned by Thomson. The others are leased, Majesty and Spirit from Louis, Celebration from HAL and Dream from Costa.
stelin34 Posted December 13, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 13, 2015 I think you may be wrong about the providers of entertainment and as for the bad reviews of IE that's why so many passengers returned constantly. The people who put bad reviews are the type that want the best at a cheap price (skinflints)and tried the IE. The passengers who loved the IE returned and enjoyed her for what she was and there are many on here that did .So back to M&Js question the Majesty is probably the closest to IE that they will now get ,I am told. stelin34 Posted December 13, 2015 #11 Share Posted December 13, 2015 Yes but I'm saying that's what got said about IE
stelin34 Posted December 13, 2015 #12 Share Posted December 13, 2015 Also I was answering M&J who had been on IE and was looking for a comparable ship with a comparable clientelle .The spirit has the best percentages for her type of clientelle, and I tend to find that people with high expectations are the first to let it be known what an awful time they've had and that people who are just looking for enjoyment don't tend to shout about it afterwards as long as nothing serious happens ,at the end of the day it's each to there own. [emoji3] if you've done p&o i would really go for one of the other thomson ships, the discovery is keeping some of the features from rci splendour, i know if the majesty had been my first cruise it would have been my last, cold inedible food, rude staff, lazy cabin stewards

stelin34 Posted December 13, 2015 #15 Share Posted December 13, 2015 As I have said each to there own. As M&J where looking for a comparable ship to IE I wasn't going to point them in the way of the top ranking Thomson ship, Was I, also having not been on any of the others I was not in a position to say. At the end of the day if I'm enjoying myself I don't care if it's Tom and Jerry or Frankenstein employing the entertainers , when you go out to see a show on terra firma you don't ask who there agency is.or do you. Chaffesbird Posted December 14, 2015 #20 Share Posted December 14, 2015 Personally, I like the Majesty. We have always had a great time on her. We are on her this New Year. We prefer her to the Dream. Celebration is my favourite though. Each to there own:)
Stevio Posted December 14, 2015 #21 Share Posted December 14, 2015 After having some great times on the Island Escape, is this ship going to be as relaxed and friendly. Local travel agent wasn't sure! As an ex IE cruiser, I would say the closest Thomson ship match would be the Majesty. Have sailed the Dream & found them to have the longest buffet serving area & the least choice. To the extent that on curry night with both restaurants serving the same fare, one poor lady who didn't like Indian food had nothing to eat after the burger bar on deck closed at 6 pm unless she paid. Found both IE & Majesty in a fraction of the serving space, to provide more choice for a single a meal than Dream provided for the week. I thought Majesty food to be on a par with IE & had no problems with temperatures. There is also better buffet seating on the Majesty than the IE since they covered in the San Marco restaurant. If you are a casino visitor the Majesty has a slightly larger one than the IE. (Casino virtually non existent on Dream). The casino on the Discovery could be their great advantage if they leave it the same size as on RC... But you know they will not by their past record of carving the sports bar out of the original on the IE & installing pointless seating both sides of Majesty. There were certainly a few Eastern European staff on the Majesty that do not smile as much as those from the Philippines, but my main problem was the Russian waiter who kept serenading us at dinner... Everyone loved him & he was very good, but it would draw attention to the fact that I had gone up for more than one helping of spotted dick & custard. No entertainment on other ships can compete to IE standards as they haven't got a Ross Roberts.

We haven't been able to sail on her for the this year as no flights from here to the eastern Med but, now she will be sailing from Palma, we are looking forward to sailing on her again Summer 2016.
