PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted January 3, 2016 Author #326 Share Posted January 3, 2016 First course was salad, seared I’A with mango sauce, Imu roasted Kalua pua’a (pork – yummy) and poi (tried it but yuck).
PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted January 3, 2016 Author #327 Share Posted January 3, 2016 You may have noticed that I had quite the artistic eye for the native Hawaiian men. It was for purely art purposes. Maria and I did get a fit of the giggles – partly due to the high number of drinks we had tried and partly because our guys were rolling their eyes at us – as I tried to get this very artistic shot. :o They let us have our fun. PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted January 3, 2016 Author #328 Share Posted January 3, 2016 We know the pinas!! The 2nd course was New Zealand with a salad, harore kumara (roasted mushrooms, sweet potato, and onion) and miti hangi (steak!).
PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted January 3, 2016 Author #329 Share Posted January 3, 2016 3rd course was Tahiti and consisted of moa fafa (chicken), e-iaota (raw fish), and baked scallops. Phil had the beer. :)
PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted January 3, 2016 Author #330 Share Posted January 3, 2016 4th course was Samoa – grilled gufe’e (squid); palusami (breadfruit and squash); and shrimp, avocado and fresh fruit. 5th course was dessert – caramel macadamia nut tart, Hawaiian chocolate truffles, and tropical fruits. Somoa has the fire dancers! It was amazing!
PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted January 3, 2016 Author #331 Share Posted January 3, 2016 We didn’t go for the food, but we didn’t leave hungry and we were very entertained, so I feel like it was a lovely night! Taxis were waiting outside of the venue. It was a very quick ride back to the hotel to enjoy the view from our balcony. Up next, complete Road to Hana!! PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted January 3, 2016 Author #332 Share Posted January 3, 2016 Great review and beautiful photos. We will be cruising on the Pride of America in May, and I have a quick question. How was the ship motion between islands? I've never cruised, and I'm wondering if I will need to take anything for motion sickness. Hello!! Thank you!!! We did not experience any motion problems on the cruising between the islands. Or hear any complaints. I love the motion personally. Besides the first few days coming down from Vancouver, it was quite calm, especially between the islands. I hope you have a wonderful cruise and trip!!!! PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted January 3, 2016 Author #333 Share Posted January 3, 2016 Lovely photos of the 4 of you at the Feast at Lele! It sounds like a busy two days on Maui! Looking forward to hearing about your Road to Hana day. :) Thank you! We don't usually do pics like that, but we're glad we did. Lol, yes, and Road to Hana was like 2 days in one! Gorgeous though!! Coming up soon!!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted January 3, 2016 Author #334 Share Posted January 3, 2016 DAY 14 – ROAD TO HANA, MAUI Today was the Road to Hana! Long day but gorgeous! No time for breakfast, but Phil did get a coffee downstairs. Butch from Maui Touring Company was there bright and early! He brought the Suburban instead of the Escalade because it was a bit roomier. He was a very nice guy! Breakfast snack and lunch at a 5 star restaurant were included in this tour. I got in the back seat and, as I got settled, I noticed some kind of scary bug on the passenger head rest. OH NO!! I used my iPad to keep it corralled until Frank could get out of the front seat and get something to get it. Unfortunately, when Frank flipped it out, he flipped it right at me. UGGGGGHHHHH! I am still a little traumatized and will get him back when he least expects it. Though maybe posting that picture of him in the robe at HHV could be considered appropriate retribution…
PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted January 3, 2016 Author #335 Share Posted January 3, 2016 We stopped for breakfast snack in Paia. None of us were really hungry. Butch warned us to use the bathroom because there would no bathrooms on the Road until lunch. Yikes!! Maria tried to use the bathroom in the breakfast place (which sold coffee and pastries and breakfast sandwiches), but someone was in it and never came out. (Which did not bode well for the food there, so lucky we did not eat…) She eventually went to the gas station up the street.
PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted January 3, 2016 Author #336 Share Posted January 3, 2016 We stopped at the place we stopped last time we were in Maui. Maybe Butch forgot we had gone there or maybe just a 2nd photo op? We grabbed a couple of pictures and were not here long – just long enough for cigarettes. PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted January 3, 2016 Author #348 Share Posted January 3, 2016 We stopped at Aunt Sandy’s banana bread stand. Butch said this was the absolute best banana bread, the original, no matter what the other stands claimed. I don’t know for sure, but it was definitely delicious! We bought some to eat and also some mix to take home. We haven’t made it yet, but can’t wait until Phil makes it. (He is the chef in our marriage.)
