IWannaGetAway Posted January 1, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2016 Hello everyone! We are booked on NCL out of New Orleans on May 1, 2016. We just booked in the last couple of weeks without checking any event schedules for New Orleans. Then, when I tried to find a hotel, I found out most hotels near the port were either booked or very expensive! It's the last weekend of the jazz festival! We could have found a hotel just for the night with little to do or see around it, but after spending time in New Orleans before, I just could not get enthused. Since we are driving and it looked like we would be 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours away from the port anyway, I decided to look into Biloxi. We were able to get a free room at Harrah's and it looks like about a 1 1/2 hour drive to the port. This way, we get to experience some place new and hopefully enjoyable, but also get to the port in plenty of time to park and cruise. Has anyone else done this? Is this workable? Thanks for your input! Cindy
wanttoBcruising Posted January 2, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Outside of some traffic accident, road closure, you should be fine. Stayed on MS Coast w/ F&F and we drove over morning of a cruise, didn't have an issue. You're right, it's about 1.5 hours. Enjoy your cruise. NOLALADY Posted January 17, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 17, 2016 That is Jazz Fest weekend! Can't touch hotels in NOLA during that time. Biloxi is about an hour and a half as someone mentioned above. Lots of casinos. Gulfport is about 15 minutes closer to NOLA and also has casinos. You can definitely make the ship without a problem, but I know they just started instituting staggered check in NOLA, so keep that in mind. But you should not have a problem at all. IWannaGetAway Posted January 17, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted January 17, 2016 Thanks for your responses, everyone! NOLALADY, I am not familiar with staggered check in. How does that work?
maldenmusic Posted January 21, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 21, 2016 We've done the Biloxi to NOLA drive several times-no problems. I just booked another cruise out of NOLA and got to choose our check in time. They were in 30 minute increments starting at 10am. It's my understanding that you can't get there any earlier than your stated time but can arrive later.
