Jdleong Posted January 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2016 On the morning of our cruise, I want to get a taxi from the Day's inn to Terminal 2. How easy is it to get a taxi? Do I need to prearrange it? What should it cost? There are 6 of us , so it is either a van or two taxis, is there a company that has vans? Thank you in advance, there must be someone who lives there... Jan

I think I can get a taxi for less than $
Rare wilmingtech Posted January 14, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2016 I'm assuming you are at the Days Inn in Galveston West/ Seawall? From any Days Inn you can grab an Uber. from the Days Inn seawall its 8-10$. Its Easy Peasy. Download the app on Android or iphone and setup an account with a credit card and request a driver. They usually have large ubers for 6 people. You could try Lyft as well. Same thing. App to order a driver. -Sean

Rare wilmingtech Posted January 14, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 14, 2016 Sean, Are there a lot of Uber drivers in Galveston? I thought they couldn't get into the port area without being fined. Its like Vegas Airport, they can drop off but are not allowed to pick up at the cruise terminal. Although Lyft is now allowed to pick up at LAS. Availability of drivers is always changing though. I usually try to look at the app during the time of day I'd be using uber and make sure there are drivers available. I just looked now and there are no drivers available :( I'd be surprised if there were no drivers available on cruise departure days. Just an option. Have a great cruise! -Sean
Barsnikel Posted January 14, 2016 #8 Share Posted January 14, 2016 Cruised out of Galveston many times. We always go in the night before, and catch a taxi to the port (and back to hotel). Going to the port, never had to wait more than a 10-15 minutes (usually less). From most anywhere in Galveston, the ride to the port will only run about $15 (up to 4 people). After the cruise, there will be a line of cabs waiting. A cab in Galveston is easy to do, and not expensive.
Jdleong Posted January 14, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted January 14, 2016 Thank you for all your responses, What taxi service did you call Barsnikel? Guess I will just request two taxis and go from there. Anyone used Super Shuttle for the airport to Galveston? , our flights don't match up with Galveston Express's times. We are going in two days prior and have a 5pm flight home, so time isn't a issue.
Barsnikel Posted January 14, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 14, 2016 ^ we've used various ones. We just have the hotel call them.. don't really pay much attention to which company shows up. Coming off the ship, we just get the first cab in line And just as a side note.... When we have more than carry on.... We get up and have breakfast at the hotel, then about 9:30 I load up our luggage and run it over to the pier (it's only 10 minutes away from most hotels).... I drop the luggage off to the waiting baggage handlers and go back to the hotel and park. THEN we call for the cab. It isn't necessary, but it only takes a few minutes and it's just easier not having to mess with luggage in the cab.
JaniceB Posted January 21, 2016 #11 Share Posted January 21, 2016 You all are awesome, thanks for the info. I live in a rural town but heard we may have some uber drivers so I will download the app for Galveston.
gfh77665 Posted January 28, 2016 #12 Share Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) Sean, Are there a lot of Uber drivers in Galveston? I thought they couldn't get into the port area without being fined. What day do you need a ride? I am not an Uber drive but only my wife and I will be in our 8 passenger Honda Odyssey on Jan. 30. I could easily swing by your hotel, it wouldn't be an imposition... let me know! Edited January 28, 2016 by gfh77665

Don't think that's correct. We lived there for 8 years. Even if they. Ant drop you at the actual door, they can drop you literally across the street. Taxis are also easy to get. You will probably need to call one, but they're fast. Is the Days inn You're using on Seawall?

I was also looking at renting a car at IAH for the 10 days, less that the shuttle round trip, but hows the parking?
