Concerns on upcoming Cruise

Hello, I recently had a wonderful cruise on Disney. Having cruise fever we immediately booked another cruise, this time with Carnival Glory for comparison. My first time cruising mom and sister will have an adjoining room with my family on the Riviera deck. I have a couple of concerns/questions. Is the Riviera Deck a comfortable deck (easy to get around the ship from and not much noise and motion) seeing it is the lowest? Also I just found out there is smoking all over the ship - no restrictions other than the main dining areas. We are all sensitive to the odor of cigarette smoke. Has anyone found this to be a problem in their stateroom or otherwise?

We almost always stay on the Rivera deck, because of my tendencies toward seasickness. It has the less motion and is usually very quiet. DW is very sensitive to smoke, and has never had a problem with smoke smells in our room. I read the same in another thread from many others. Have a great cruise with the family!!

We were on the Riviera deck on the Celebration and it was very quiet. Didn't have any problems with cigerette smoke or smells but we did have the famous "sewer smell" on this deck a few times  ! And don't forget, if you take the stairs to your cabin, you won't gain any weight.

Happy cruising,

Gayle

Getting around is easy . . . there are elevators forward and aft and several in between. Looking from one end of the Riviera Deck to the other . . . nothing but cabins . . . looks like a football field . . . it goes on forever . . . :p And, being on the lowest level . . . a lot less motion . . . thus, a lot less chance of motion sickness (if one is prone to that).

Less noise if you are either forward or aft . . . in between? You'll hear people going down the hall if they aren't quiet. Nothing that really bothers unless it's early in the morning (and you are a late sleeper) or late at night (if you turn in early).

Smoking? It's allowed in one's cabin, the casino, most lounges and on one side of the ship when outside. No smoking allowed anywhere else on the ship. If smoking bothers you, just stay on the non-smoking side of the ship when outside and don't go into the casino and most cocktail lounges.

Have a fantastic cruise . . . you're gonna love Carnival! :D

First, congrats on choosing the Glory. I LOVE this ship (just look at my signature) and am going againa week from Sat. The Glory is a beautiful ship, excellent food, and has great itineraries/port times.

Smoking - not true. No smoking in dining rooms, theaters/showrooms, port side of ship on outside decks, all of the promendade from the showroom - past the shops - and the entire length of the seating area on the promenade. There is a non-smoking area in the casino although it is still a bit smokey due to the fact that it's an open area. No smoking in the atrium either. And, no smoking in the elevator areas. Never once have smelled remaining smoke in any stateroom on any Carnival ship. The neutralizer they use is phenomenal.

Riviera deck - lower to the water, less motion. You will quickly find your way around to which elevator banks get you where you want to go. I've seen some posts about folks having some trouble getting around but just remember, if you run into an area that you can't go thru, it is because of the dining room/food prep areas. Just keep the map they give you handy and you won't have any problems. Heck, even if you don't have the map, you won't have any problems. Always someone to ask. And, it's a way to discover new places.

I would definitely recommend that you request the Golden dining room. That is the foreward dining room. The aft dining room (Platinum) tends to have a vibration that makes me crazy. It's because it sits over the propellers. Not always noticable and certainly won't spoil a trip...but if you can get the Golden, do!

Thanks so much everyone for all the information. I feel more excited about going already!! I went on the Carnival Jubilee in 2003 but my husband and I went alone and I didnt remember much about a smoking issue. So, this being cleared up, I am again waaay excited!! I couldn't be much happier if I won the lottery than the feeling I get being so pampered on a cruise! :) I gained 9 pounds in one week on the Disney (and thats even with my working out each morning!) I am not a large person, I just really lived it up!! hahaha...I guess I should opt more for the stairs on this cruise!! I am very excited to take my mom and sister too! I just know they will love cruising as much as I do !! I heard the Carnival kids camp is awesome too. My kids really liked the Oceaneers club in Disney so they should be very happy in kids camp too!! Thanks again!!:D

Carnival Glory (I can't wait) 03/06

Disney Magic 9/05

Carnival Jubilee 6/03
