The Langhorns Posted April 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2004 Can anyone recommend the Athenian Inn at Pike Place Market for seafood? What is their best dish? We are looking for a lunch place close to downtown. Thanks for any input.. good or bad. redhead1 Posted April 24, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 24, 2004 Honestly? The best place downtown for seafood would probably be Elliotts Oyster House. Wonderful place, if a bit pricey. Here is their website: http://www.unionsquaregrill.com/elliotts/elliotts.html The dh and I went there last month for dinner, on a gift certificate we were given for Christmas. Now we are plotting how to justify going back! violet1960 Posted April 25, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 25, 2004 I vote for Elliotts. Never heard of the Athenian. But honestly, you really can't go wrong with fresh seafood at any of the better restaurants in Seattle. I would definately stay away from the chains if you want a good meal. Ivars is fine if fish and chips is what you are after. Violet Diamond Princess 11/27/
Cruzbw Posted April 25, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 25, 2004 Elliott's is excellent. My favorites for seafood are McCormick's and McCormicks & Shmicks.
The Langhorns Posted April 25, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted April 25, 2004 Thanks, everyone. I'm beginning to think of just staying in Seattle and not going on the cruise . There is so much too do (and eat) I wish we had more time.
lkmamom Posted April 25, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 25, 2004 Anyone from Seattle that can tell me about how far Elliott's would be from the Sheraton downtown? We are staying there this summer precruise. Thanks!! Linda
violet1960 Posted April 25, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 25, 2004 You can walk there, less than a mile. It is all down hill there and up hill back. You can walk through Pike's place market and take the elevator or stairs down and up. then it is a short walk south along the waterfront (Alaska way). The other walking route is to walk from the Sheraton west to first Ave to Union then take the Harbor Steps to Western, then another block or two west to the waterfront. There is always an option for a cab. The public busses (Metro)are free downtown, but Elliott's isn't on a route. if you choose the walk down first, you will pass by McCormick & Schmicks, another very good seafood restaurant, but no view of the water. Do a mapquest search and see. Diamond Princess 11/27/
violet1960 Posted April 25, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 25, 2004 Ikmamon, I should add....An oddity about the restaurants in the area is that there are not many that offer outdoor dining. It is seldom that you can reserve a table for outside. The outside dining, at most places is first come-first served. I am not sure about Elliott's policy. It is a must to make reservations a couple of days ahead for any better restaurant, even for weeknights. Most restaurants take reservations on line. What i usually do is make a reservation for a window table on Tuesday or Wednesday if I want to eat on Saturday and reserve a table by the window. When I get there, ask for a table outside. If the wait is less than 30 minutes, we usually wait. Violet Diamond Princess 11/27/
