Upgrade question. Not sure what to do. Need thoughts please

Has anyone gotten an email offering an upgrade to a balcony that will be assigned on the date of sailing? What are pros and cons please? Thoughts needed.

I haven't had your exact experience but did a balcony guarantee last year, so similar. I did not receive my cabin number until a few days prior to my cruise. We ended up with a great location, but it was a gamble.

 

If you choose this option you should be prepared for whatever balcony they decided to give you.

The only guarantee cabin we ever booked was a balcony cabin on Dream. We were upgrading from a porthole cabin. We ended up with a good location on Vista deck that we were very pleased with.

Worst case you end up above or below a dance club or below the main pool on the Lido deck. Others may have a few minor noise problems but in most cases you should be fine.

I do not enjoy balconies on Carnival because I have been unfortunate enough to get stuck next to people that are inconsiderate and let their balcony doors slam. It irritates the Dickens out of me. I have declined a free upgrade from OV to a balcony that I could have chosen myself.

 

I am very picky about cabin location and would not be happy getting stuck above the disco or piano bar so wouldn't feel comfortable with a guarantee cabin. Plenty of people have had good luck, and others have not. A bad cabin would absolutely ruin my cruise and it's not worth the risk to me.

I have always loved the balcony guarantees that I have been given by Carnival. In fact, last year I had a guarantee cabin on our Hawaii cruise and I loved it so much I booked it specifically for my upcoming 13 night Mexico cruise that departs this Sunday! Ole'!~
