Casino on the Escape

I am mainly a Video Poker player. As such I enjoy several hours per night/day in the casino playing at the bar which is non-smoking and where I can get my drinks anytime I want them. I am golden so my drinks are comped on NCL and I always tip so I get to know the bar tenders and I enjoy their antics and fun atmosphere.

A couple of weeks ago I sailed the Escape for the first time and spent very little time at the bar. Adjacent to it is a dance floor which extremely loud music either from live bands or videos with blaring speakers and a backdrop. The bar stools were so uncomfortable I ended up standing when I was there and there is a surface on the bar front that is so rough you can hurt your knees on it. There were times in late afternoon where some parents thought it a great idea to sit around the bar area and let their kids scream and play on the dance floor. No one seemed to take notice from the staff.

So I moved into the rest of the casino and endured the smoke. I hope they rethink this on future ships.

It was extremely loud into the casino and there were a lot of "hand around" people just drinking and screaming over the music. There is actually a hall between the dance floor and the rest of the casino but no walls whatsoever so the sound really carries.

Like you, I'm a VP player, and I'm going to be on board the Escape in June. Although I know ship's casinos never have good VP, I'm wondering if you can tell me what the best pay table you found was?

Excuse me for barging in to this thread...

I also enjoy video poker and keep a payback table to check machines. Normally I've found cruise ship casinos to have poor paybacks. Here are some numbers:

JACKS OR BETTER

Pay TablePay-back

6/5 95.00%

7/5 96.15%

8/5 97.30%

8/6 98.39%

9/5 98.45%

9/6 99.54%

DOUBLE BONUS POKER

Pay TablePay-back

7/5 93.11%

8/5 94.19%

9/6/4 96.38%

9/6/5 97.81%

9/7/5 99.11%

10/7 100.17%

I hope that helps. They're not very good games on the ship.

Yep, like you I keep the tables handy. I also have software on my laptop that i can run when I encounter a "non-standard" table.

And yes, I've never found payback on ship's casino's to be any good at all. That's one reason why it always irritates me when casinos only give you half credit for $ in on VP....they say you have an "advantage" because you can figure out the payback %, but they're not offering a decent payback anyway....oh well, don't get me started.

Unfortunately, I know I will spend time in the casino. In most instances I can pay 25 cent video poker on $100 for quite a while. I can put $100 in a slot machine and play max credits and it either hits (rarely) or is gone in no time.

I try to always play max credits in any machine. I never want to look up there and realize I hit a jackpot but only got smidgeons because I was playing a low amount. I know I am probably in the minority, as I look around the casino. But that is just how it is with me.
