Gold status raised to Platinum for Owners Suite cruise?

Cruising the first week of March. A month or so ago took the upgrade offer on the Penthouse/Owners Suite. The cost from the Grand Suite to the Owners Suite was a small percentage for tripling the space from 300 sf-ish to 900 sf-ish for the three of us (wife, 7 year old son and myself).

Any way, we are all VIFP Gold with 49 days, so multiple cruises away from VIFP Platinum.

However, all of our documents for this cruise have us as Platinum. The VIFP numbers are correct.

Do they "artificially" upgrade you for cruising in a premium cabin?

I believe all suites on Carnival come with priority boarding and debarkation, hence the "platinum" on your boarding pass and luggage tags. This is the only "platinum" perk however suites get you. They do not get you priority tender, priority dining times assignment, priority guest services line, etc.

When we were booked in the Grand Suite we were still marked as Gold on the boarding pass and the status was marked as Priority on the other paperwork and luggage tags.

When we were upgraded to the Owners Suite, the new paperwork shows us as Platinum and the status is marked as VIP on the paperwork and luggage tags.

Not a big deal, more curious than anything.

We have booked a suite on 3 separate occasions with Carnival. Our boarding passes always said "priority" which is he perk that came with the suite. We are gold and our vifp numbers and documents reflected this. If your pass says "platinum" it is not just a perk of the suite, as your pass would just say priority if it was that.

That is exactly how I thought it always went.

I do not have personal experience to share about this, but do remember back in 2014 Carnival was extending temporary Platinum status offers to certain customers.

That is the only situation where I have ever heard of Carnival extending temporary Platinum status.

My personal experience before becoming Platinum and booking a suite was priority embarkation as a suite perk, and that is reflected on the boarding pass.

Interesting- maybe it is something like that. Just for this cruise since it is the Owners/Penthouse whatever suite. The good news is, nine days and I will know for certain!

I am platinum, my daughter is gold. On our recent Miracle cruise, her documents stated that she was platinum, but they gave her a gold card at embarkation. I believe that they listed her as platinum on the documents simply so that she could check in with the platinums, since she and I were sharing a balcony cabin.

We've been platinum for a many cruises and our luggage tags don't say platinum on them, they say Priority. I'm not 100% sure of the boarding documents, but all they look for on the Priority line is the PRIORITY in red letters on the documents.

Unless things have changed in a week that's what we've seen. I have both the tags from the Triumph in January and the Magic for this month.

  • 2 weeks later...

Promised to let you know the end result.

We are all checked in through the lounge. Once checked in we waited for about 20 minutes in the lounge itself.

Then we were escorted on the ship. We went through an access door to bypass the first ones called to board.

My son is very excited to report he was the absolute, one hundred percent first guest onboard.

The gave us our sail and sign cards at the entry point. We did not actually ding on.

However, the real answer is yes my wife and I have platinum cruise cards for this cruise.

Now we are off to the Bahamas.....

Stayed in the owners suite once. it was great. The ship staff comes off the ship and personally walks you onboard. You do feel very special. Worth the money for a one time experience.
