Valparaiso Passenger Terminal Information

Leaving this coming Sunday on the Celebrity Infinity we are staying at the IBIS Hotel at the Muelle Prat portside. Is this where the passengers check in or is there another terminal from which the passengers leave for the cruise ship? We selected this hotel because it is right at portside and very convenient. Now we hear that we may need to check in somewhere else. Can anyone clarify this for us?

You may get more responses in the South America forum. I don't know anything about Valpo or Ibis Hotel, but on our recent Valparaiso to Buenos Aires cruise, we were checked in at a large terminal, then a shuttle took us to Infinity for boarding. I didn't see any hotels...it was a large container port. Hope this helps and again, check the South America forum.

We were in the Valparaiso cruise terminal last March while on a B2B2B. Hopefully someone who joined the ship in Valparaiso will comment, but we certainly saw lines of passengers joining the ship in Valparaiso (for the Valparaiso to Ft. Lauderdale leg) checking-in inside the cruise terminal.

We were on the Infinity repo cruise in December to Valparaiso and had to take a bus (approx 10 minutes) to several warehouse buildings to pick up our luggage. The location is referred to as Valparaiso Terminal de Pasajeros on google maps. It is at the far end of the port property and away from the working pier. You will need a taxi from your hotel to the check-in area.

We stayed at the Ibis Hotel in Valparaiso prior to a cruise in December 2015. While the hotel is near where the cruise ships are berthed, this is a big industrial port and the cruise terminal where you check in is not at this end of the harbour. Where you check in for cruises is further north, and you get transported by shuttle from the cruise terminal to your ship.

Taxis are easy to get from the Ibis on cruise days - there was a steady stream of them running to and from the hotel/cruise terminal on the day we joined our cruise. The taxi we got charged us 4000 Chilean pesos, but I did hear one other passenger say they were charged 5000 pesos. Either way, it is not very much!
