fleckle Posted March 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 26, 2016 We are booked on an Alaska cruise in September and have quite a bit of OBC. Can we use it for our gratuities? Yes. It can be used to pay for anything that is charged to your onboard account. The standard gratuities are charged as debits to your onboard account each day. OBC appears as a credit to your onboard account. Your account will show either a debit or credit balance, depending on whether your debits or credits are greater, just like the balance on a credit card account. (Some other examples of debits charged to the onboard account are specialty restaurant meals, shore excursions, spa treatments, beverage packages or upgrades, special classes, bingo cards, anything purchased at the onboard shops, laundry or internet charges.) You can check your account balance and see all the debits and credits made to it whenever you like on the TV screen in your cabin. Additionally, if you like, you can request a paper printout of your account from guest relations.
Coarsegold_Mom Posted March 26, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted March 26, 2016 Thank you! I knew we could use them for spa, restaurants and excursions but wasn't sure about gratuities. Good to know...and now I can pre-book my other excursions knowing most of my OBC wlll be used on gratuities. Thank you for the quick responses. az_tchr Posted March 26, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 26, 2016 Suggest you go to your roll call as booking shore excursions there generally offers a better experience at far less cost. You will find plenty of things to spend your OBC on and if any of it came from a TA then no need to spend the OBC-R as it will be refunded at the end of the cruise.
