Arles from cruise port by train - advice needed

Hello

 

We are looking at either hiring a car or taking the train from Port of Marseille to Arles. We want to visit the Van Gogh sites but private tours are out of our budget.

 

Has anyone got experience with this? Are there car rental places in port amd how far is the train station from the port?

 

Any advice much appreciated! Thank you in advance.

We considered taking the train back and forth from Avignon, but the train timing did not work out well on the day we were there, Sunday. Also, we found no rental places open on Sunday. Instead, we ended up taking the bus back and forth from Aix-en-Provence. Nevertheless, I can answer your question about the train station, because we caught the bus right at the train station. We rode the free Marseille port shuttle to just outside the port, and from there we walked about 20 minutes to the train station. See this map:
