Velcro911 Posted May 2, 2016 #26 Share Posted May 2, 2016 Just got off the Magic Saturday. The smoking areas are deck 5 just a little past the Red Frog area (like the pictures above). And on deck 11, aft, one level up from the aft pool, and half the Casino bar. I saw where it said that I believe the nightclub was as well, but I can't verify as I didn't go in there. The only place they listed that you can smoke cigars and pipes is the deck 5 area.
Tsdcruiser Posted May 29, 2016 #27 Share Posted May 29, 2016 We are booked directly above this area on deck 8. Was the area really busy/noisy because of the smoking area being so reduced? We want to be able to sit out on the balcony without a lot of noise and smoke. I would hope the smoke would disapate by deck 8. We were'nt worried about being on port, but thought most people would be near red frog or Lanai area smoking. More spread out.

jakesnana Posted May 30, 2016 #29 Share Posted May 30, 2016 Trumpster, thanks for posting the pictures. While it looks like Carnival has tried to set up a comfortable smoking area, and I certainly wouldn't mind using it, it would not be of any use in bad weather :( I read in another thread that people should be careful what they wish for and that's true. Carnival has severely limited the outside smoking areas, making most of the unusable in windy or bad weather, therefore driving many inside to the casino and casino bar. I would PREFER to smoke outside (as I do at home), but if my choice is to get wind blown and/or rained on or go to a nice dry casino - well it's not rocket science :)
Tsdcruiser Posted May 30, 2016 #30 Share Posted May 30, 2016 You really need to change your location. The noise from smoking a cigarette is deafening:rolleyes: LOL...What I meant to ask was, since smokers have such a limited area to smoke outside, is the smoking area very busy and perhaps a more noisy area? I'm not judging the smokers, just concerned that since there are not many choices for smokers outside, it might get pretty crowded under the balcony. Just looking for helpful feedback. Both were busy and noisy at times. Other times not so much so. Some very loud smoker groups occurred and the inevitable social nature of being in a rapidly dwindling and socially unacceptable group tends to make one noisy :D ;) I wouldn't choose a balcony on deck 6 or 7 above these area's. Deck 8 and 9 maybe. but I like being forward and higher...deck 10 or 11 on Magic so it wouldn't be an issue for me.

I see the same cabins opened up on starboard so I may move. We have 2 cabins and are trying to open up balconies so it is limiting us on choices. Forward looks nice, my friend was concerned about sea sickness. Do you find movement to be more forward?

Tsdcruiser Posted February 3, 2017 #36 Share Posted February 3, 2017 In case anyone finds this thread, we are just back off the Magic. We ended up staying in the deck 8 cabin above the port smoking area. It was no problem at all. Never smelled any smoke. Although there were a couple of times that there were some get togethers below on deck 5, it was never a problem for us up on our balcony. Most of the time it was very quiet. Lollipop's Mom Posted February 3, 2017 #37 Share Posted February 3, 2017 Be prepared for nasty smoke smell all through mid ship. I honestly would never sail this ship again! It's like a floating ashtray! Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Rare lepidoptera Posted February 3, 2017 #39 Share Posted February 3, 2017 (edited) When we were on the Magic there was a grown man at guest services having what can only be described as a temper tantrum because his guarantee balcony was on deck 6 and the smoke was bothering him on his balcony. Personally we had no issues with smoke from cigarettes bothering us at all on our cruise (sister did have some asthma problems but that was from the smoke from the electrical fire in our room and the fire extinguisher). sjcruiser Posted February 13, 2017 #41 Share Posted February 13, 2017 Cigars are allowed outside ocean plaza on 5, ad deck 11 aft. What about cigars? Allowed in the same exterior locations?

And we hung out just outside the casino most nights listening to music.
jmharmon73 Posted February 13, 2017 #43 Share Posted February 13, 2017 We cruised on the Magic in August and the smoke smell in and around the Casino was horrible. They really need to address this issue.
