davecttr Posted April 5, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 5, 2016 give people a chance to reply ;) yes, black tie evenings are usually on sea days. note that Oceana is the most casual P&O ship and black tie dress is only required in the main dining room and Magnums bar. everywhere else is evening casual. single beds give more walking about space in the cabin but I like the full double size for comfort. The steward will change the configuration if you ask. The beach house is a nice alternative to the main dining room at a reasonable price. On Oceana it is the Horizon grill during the day and in the evening takes over about a third of the Plaza buffet so you have the alternative of inside or al fresco dining. The style is american diner although IMO they try to make it as classy as possible because Oceana does not have an Epicurian or sindhu restaurant. Breakfast and lunch is available in the mdr as well as the buffet. i find it best to avoid busy times in the buffet so you don't get bombarded with flying buns :D No need to hide the booze in your suitcase, a plastic bag will do :)

Doughty3 Posted April 5, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 5, 2016 My advice would be not to risk wine soaked clothes in your suitcase! When we visited Genoa last year we turned right after getting off the ship, walked for 10, not very scenic, minutes towards the old port area (look out for the pirate ship) and found a small Ekom supermarket on Ponte Molo Morosini with a small selection of local wines. We'd brought a supermarket wine carrier with us and bought local wines in each port to sample before we went to dinner each evening. We found the ship's wine reasonably priced. Hope this helps & is in time for you.
Heartlands1 Posted April 6, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 6, 2016 If you visit the old port area, part of the historic centre of Genoa, you will find several wine shops under the arches at everyday prices.
