What to do for kids?

We'll be in San Juan from our cruise in May for 8 hours (8 AM to 4 PM). We are a family of four, DH, me, DD 5, and DS 2.5. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do there? We have visited the old town and the castles, not planning to hike for the rain-forest this time. Is there anything else we can do in San Juan? Thank you!!!

Just have a ship day. Let the kids swim to their hearts content . Most people will be ashore and the pools won't be crowded at all.:)

If you're coming with your kids and have "been here, done that" already try renting a car for a few hours and venture out of the Old San Juan area. There is a fairly big and nice children's museum in nearby Carolina. It's about a 20 minute drive from the pier. Car rental should run you no more than $40-45 (depending on the car and the insurance). I used May 18 as the date so you might recheck with your actual arrival date. The drive is very straightforward. The museum fee is $10 per adult, $6 per children under 18. There are other extras like $5 for 5 minutes in a go-kart track, there's a mini/kindda-petting zoo as well. Most (if not all) the exhibitions are very interactive too! After that you might want to spend an hour or two at the beach in Isla Verde or Escambron, both Blue Flag beaches. Isla Verde is near the airport, Escambron is at the entrance of Old San Juan. Google Museo del Niño Carolina and check it out. Info is in spanish but there are lots of pics. Good luck!

Taxi should be around $35-40 each way for all of you. While there are no taxi stands at the museum, a quick call to the dispatcher's number on the side of the taxi you board should get you one in a few minutes, or make arrangements with your driver. The staff at the museum can also call a taxi for you. Your best bet could be arrange for a private driver to take you, wait and bring you back to Condado's Ashford Ave. between the old Ambassador Plaza hotel and the Condado Plaza. Lots of good restaurants for all tastes and wallets.
