Upgrade? How will you be informed?

Just dreaming, I guess, but if one were to be given an upgrade, how will you learn of it? Through your TA? By checking your booking # on Princess' web site? By personal e-mail? Not until you arrive at the pier?

Will one be less likely to get an upgrade if you have family in another cabin on the same deck?

Yes is the answer to all your questions. It seems like no one has found out the true rhyme or reason why the upgrades are handed out. People use different tactics to get them too. As far as getting the info, many times you are informed by your TA who will ask you if you want it or not. At this point it's good to have a map of the ship so you can see how your location would change and if you would like it. When you get a good upgrade... make sure to thank the "Upgrade Fairy" because you never know where she will wave her wand. Happy cruising! :D

Our last cruise.........Transatlantic on Star.........................we booked 6 months in advance; informed our TA would love an upgrade. We booked outside obstructed view.............I kept checking computer for months for upgrade,,,,,,,,,,never found. At the Venice pier checkin,,,,,,,,,,,,,,papers were passed, signed for virus, etc. and card keys given to us. We boarded never checking card key number, so when I asked for help with carry ons to our stateroom, they escorted us to Aloha Deck........................I said no, no we are on Dolphin,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,to my amazement that is how we were told we had been upgraded....................on the ship at the room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Had I been aware of looking at cruise card I would have seen,,,,,,,,,,,,but we were so tired from an overnite and day flight in Venice I just did not read the fine print.................it was a fabulous balcony room aft ship on portside..............we were on our first elite trip so talk about a wonderful cruise,,,,,,,,,,,,this was it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sailinsal

Can anyone get an upgrade or is it just the people who have booked a "guarantee" cabin. We already have an assigned cabin number which I booked online. We have an outside balcony, but I orginally wanted a mini-suite. Guess I am just dreaming.

We almost always book specifc cabin numbers, and still have received upgrades ... usually we get a call, but the last one I found out when checking some info on the personalizer .......

Almost always your travel agent will call you if they know about it. Sometimes if it is important to stay in the cabin you booked they will request no upgrade(when you are with family in other cabins etc.)

Last minute is difficult to call on, and so you should keep checking your cruise personalizer until the last day. Upgrades also depend on how many cruises you have and the availability of the ship. If it is a sold out sailing the chances are nil. If there is plenty of space they will sometimes even upgrade inside cabins to balconies. As the others said it is the luck of the draw.

We always book a mini-suite. When we book a mini-suite guarantee we are frequently "upgraded" to the next category... but not always. When we care about ship location and/or it's a long cruise, we book a cabin #. We booked an AB mini-suite guarantee for our 7 day Mexican Riviera in March of next year... kind of fun to gamble and see what we get. Surprised to find the other day, we were already upgraded to an AA mini-suite. Last year, the same thing happened but a few weeks prior to the cruise, we were upgraded again to a full suite... that was wonderful! We're Elite and that's the first time that's happened. Does lightening strike twice? I'm hoping it does and last minute we'll be upgraded to a suite again. If it doesn't happen we're still happy with what we have.

Soooooooo, I will still keep my fingers crossed about an upgrade. I would imagine, though, that a Hawaiin cruise would be pretty full. This is our first time with Princess, but we have cruised several times before. I have been hearing some really great things about cruising with them. I suppose cruising with them for the first time would put us on the bottom of the upgrade list!Unfortunately, we have until February before we sail, but these boards keep me excited!
