GEARADRIFT Posted May 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2016 What better place to come than Cruise Critic. Jan (28) '17 - Choices are the Brilliance of the Seas out of TPA, a 5N stopping in Key West and Cozumel. The other choice is the Independence of the Seas out of FLL, a 5N stopping in Puerto Costa Maya and Cozumel. Hhhmmmm, which one? We have sailed the Brilliance (12/14) and have been on the sister ship of the Independence (Freedom). We like both classes of ship. Will be a Cat D1 stateroom. Cozumel is Cozumel. We are okay with that stop. Kind of hard to be in the Western Caribbean and not make that stop. I suppose it really comes down to Key West or Puerto Costa Maya. I have been to Key West before. Better half has not. But, if Puerto Costa Maya is a good Mayan Ruins, etc. stop, that is where she will want to go. What say ye, Cruise Critic? Clarea Posted May 9, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 9, 2016 Can't speak for the ruins, but if either of you enjoy the Flowrider or Royal Rromenade, then I'd go with Indy. If you like outside views from virtually all public venues, go with Brilliance.

I would take Costa Maya over Key West any day. We are not big fans of Key west. Love the glass and brass on Brilliance but love the Promenade and all there is to do on the Freedom Class ships. We do one short cruise on a ship with a Promenade every year b/c hubby loves the Promenade. Then we do a 4 night on Brilliance also. But will if cost is about the same I would take Indy for sure! Plus by then Indy will have Grease for a production show - one of our favorites! We are going on Indy again in Feb 17 Edited May 9, 2016 by karena1

Rocket3D Posted May 15, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 15, 2016 (edited) Thank you for the feedback. We decided on the Indy. Good decision. Indy has ice skating show, Grease, Invitation to Dance, Flow rider. Costa Maya has 3 ruins available, Chocchoben, Kohunlich and Dzibanche...done all 3. Some limited climbing at all. Cozumel also has Mayan ruin tours (4). Coba, Tulum, Chichen Itza, and San Jervasio which is on Coz but smallest of all....done all at least twice, CI did 4 times last year..awesome. I studied Mayan ruins as an amateur for years...do whatever it takes to see Chichen Itza at least once. The best of the bunch. No climbing there though. If you want to climb the highest pyramid on the Yucatan (some consider it actually a temple since it has a room on top) go to Coba, 138' up. Even managed to convince my DW to do the climb... Have fun! Edited May 15, 2016 by Rocket3D

Appears that we may want to put Chichen Itza at the top of the list.
