Parking at Southampton Docks UK

Recommended Posts

The choices, and costs, are not dis-similar to parking for London's airports.

Official port parking is provided by the port owners, ABP. https://www.abparking.co.uk/

This is secure compound parking in the port adjacent the ship. The simplest & safest option, but also the most expensive. Free parking is sometimes offered by cruise lines as a sweetener, though if so you'd know about that before you booked.

Cheaper parking offered by http://www.holidayextras.co.uk/southampton-port-parking.html but this is about 20 minutes from the port with an included minibus shuttle. (don't be fooled by photos with a deceptively-close ship in the background, it's on the opposite side of Southampton Water ;)). Again, a secure compound, and your car is perfectly safe.

Both of those have a daily rate, and it's generally reckoned that the higher cost of ABP port parking is worthwhile for a week, debateable for two weeks, not worthwhile for longer.

Meet-and-greet operators come & go - like elsewhere in the country many are fly-by-nights who'll park you car on the streets or even use it for personal transport. You'll not find many with bad reputations - that's because when their reputation catches up with them they simply change their name.

The only meet & greet service with a decent reputation is http://www.parking4cruises.co.uk/ I suggest you avoid the others.

You can check out parkatmyhouse and parkinmydrive websites which co-ordinate local residents who have private parking & want to earn a few bob. Do check the locations & whether transfers to/from the port are included. And check their / your insurance - although for instance regular car insurance & regular house-holders' home insurance cover a tree branch falling onto a visitor's car, that may not be the case for paid parking.

A number of Southampton hotels offer cruise-long parking with a one-night stay. This is in hotel carparks, not usually secure though I've not heard of any problems. Again check whether transfers are included, particularly for hotels on the city outskirts or surrounding countryside.

Holiday Inn, Herbert Walker Avenue, is by far the closest (right by the terminal's gate) which offers free parking - unless your date is close to the Southampton Boat Show. Very popular with cruisers, but there are a number of others.

Look on the web for promo coupon numbers for the various options, though I doubt you'll find for a popular month like August

We have booked with CPS (cruise and passengers services). Anyone have any problems with this company? Hope John Bull might jump in here. Thanks

CPS is port parking, same as ABP - which of the two operators depends on which cruise terminal & cruise line you use.

Expensive (though often offered as a cruise line freebie), but very convenient and secure.

No worries.
