JUSTLOVEIT Posted May 22, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 22, 2016 Hi, we are on the Baltic Discovery next June and need to get to the Port of Tyne from South Yorkshire. We explored various travel arrangements but opted to go on the Intercruises coach detailed in the Thomson brochure. It had to be booked in store and the ta assured us that we could take any amount of luggage as we weren't flying. So we booked. The confirmation was emailed a few days later and Intercruise say only 1 medium sized case each and any hand luggage has to go inside the coach with you. We cannot even take a cabin size case as it will not fit in the overhead rack. As it is a 14 night cruise we feel this is very restrictive and misleading by Thomson. If we were sailing on a different line from Southampton we could use Eavesway who have no such restrictions. Even when we fly we book in 3 cases. Needless to say we will be back in the ta tomorrow to sort this out. Has any one stayed in a hotel and transferred to the port?
UK Cruiser2 Posted May 22, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 22, 2016 The cruise terminal for Newcastle is actually at North Shields. There is a Premier Inn real close by.
GinoG Posted May 22, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 22, 2016 We have sailed with Thomson twice before from Newcastle and both times driven up from Hull - takes about two and a half hours but it is an easy drive up the A19. The Port of Tyne is easily accessible just through the Tyne tunnel. It is very easy to drop off your unlimited luggage and park up at the port. As the ship doesn't sail until late afternoon it is probably best to drive up on the day unless you have a really long journey.
JUSTLOVEIT Posted May 22, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted May 22, 2016 Thanks for the info. GinoG, did you park in the Thomson car park? When we enquired in store we were told it was £150 for the fortnight.
UK Cruiser2 Posted May 22, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 22, 2016 £12 per day.But Thomson may have a special deal.Check out this link and scroll to down to parking. http://www.portoftyne.co.uk/business-divisions/cruises-and-ferries/directions-and-parking.php
GinoG Posted May 22, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 22, 2016 We got free parking on our previous cruises but Thomson have now changed this to free AI - as we quite like a drink (or two) this is a better deal for us. I believe the parking is now £12 per day but this is less than the drinks package.

happy v Posted May 22, 2016 #9 Share Posted May 22, 2016 I would phone the Premier Inn at Tyne Docks and enquire about parking only. They have a large car park and less than 5 minutes from luggage drop off. If you have already booked the coach we have used them before and I'm sure you can have two cases each. We had three between us plus hand luggage. You can check their website for details.
JUSTLOVEIT Posted May 22, 2016 Author #10 Share Posted May 22, 2016 Thanks, we have the documentation from the company after we have booked saying one case per person only.
JUSTLOVEIT Posted May 23, 2016 Author #11 Share Posted May 23, 2016 Hopefully sorted regarding the only one case fiasco. Been into the TS who rang Intercruises who then confirmed 2 cases each were allowed and we would be sent an email confirmation. We got the confirmation which stated ONE case! So we rang Intercruises ourselves who admitted thy their website and system was faulty and we can take 2 cases each up to 23kg plus a small piece of hand luggage. Also given two emergency numbers as their office is closed on Sundays and we get the coach on a Sunday and don't want any problems when we turn up with more luggage than we should! Malch_uk Posted May 24, 2016 #12 Share Posted May 24, 2016 We used Intercruises last time Thomson sailed from Newcastle and the Sheffield pick up was at Woodall Services. Not exactly convenient! Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk
JUSTLOVEIT Posted May 27, 2016 Author #13 Share Posted May 27, 2016 No, this is true. Now we have the hassle of getting to Woodall. Hopefully it will be OK, just didn't fancy driving.
JUSTLOVEIT Posted May 31, 2016 Author #14 Share Posted May 31, 2016 Hooray! Finally got written confirmation from Intercruises that 2 cases per person are allowed with a weight limit of 23kg per case.
Julessmiles Posted June 1, 2016 #15 Share Posted June 1, 2016 We got free parking on our previous cruises but Thomson have now changed this to free AI - as we quite like a drink (or two) this is a better deal for us. I believe the parking is now £12 per day but this is less than the drinks package. We got free parking (worth £140) & AI drinks for the Thomson Celebration cruise we have booked from Newcastle next year - our Thomson TA offered it to us as an incentive to book with them. JUSTLOVEIT Posted June 1, 2016 Author #16 Share Posted June 1, 2016 Well done. We got AI because it was free anyway at the time we booked.
Julessmiles Posted June 1, 2016 #17 Share Posted June 1, 2016 Well done. We got AI because it was free anyway at the time we booked. It was when we booked too - I was just highlighting that it is also possible to get free parking as others are quoting £10 + per day for the parking ;)
GinoG Posted June 1, 2016 #18 Share Posted June 1, 2016 We also got the AI which was already part of the deal but also asked for and got £100 discount so there is obviously some scope for negotiation at the TA's. Now wish we had asked for free parking instead but still happy with the deal we got.
JUSTLOVEIT Posted June 1, 2016 Author #19 Share Posted June 1, 2016 Yes, we actually got a discount as if we had booked online. Never thought to ask for free parking, but then we didn't fancy the drive and were quite happy to let someone else do it.
