Using shipboard card for casino money, is there a fee?

Hello everyone,

This is my 1st Princess cruise, in past RCCL cruises I have used my Shipboard card (tied to my debit card) to get money in the casino. This avoids a charge of using my ATM card on board. Do you know if Princess charges a fee or anything for this? If so, I will get cash before I go to have ready for the casino.

Thanks for your help..

And on-board ATM charge is $5.50. So, over $200, ATM is cheaper. I suggest bring $20 cash and putting it all on the winning roulette number. Then you will have hundreds to gamble with, and no ATM charge! ;)

(I did this the other way around: turned a couple of hundred $ into $20 - AND had ATM charges! )

Princess is the first cruise we have been on that charged a fee for Casino cash put on your room charge. Maybe I will just stay out of Casino? Probably not, but not happy about this aspect of Princess Cruise line, means I will have to carry Travellers checks or Gamble less.

I have only been on Carnival and Princess and learned my lesson quickly with my Carnival cruise that the 3% adds up .. especially when you are losing at Blackjack! Bring travelers checks and cash them in.. that is the easiest, safest and cheapest way to do it.:D

I thought the ships were a cashless system I just assumed you would buy chips at the desk or something. So if I want to play the slots I should bring some rolls of quarters?

Ships ARE cashless, EXCEPT for the use of cash in the casino and for miscellaneous tips. So, if you plan to gamble, you will need cash, travelers checks or you can obtain chips through your shipboard account, which carries a 3% surcharge on Princess.

Any charge for cashing traveler's checks?

No charge for cashing travelers checks.
