Check-In VS Actual Boarding times

I noticed today that my check in time going out of Norfolk was the first time available being 12:00-12:30 but my boarding time on the cruise contract shows 1:30-4:00. Since Norfolk doesn't offer FTTF I made sure to grab the earliest time for staggered checkin with hopes of boarding right away. Why is there such a difference?

Because Boarding depends on a lot of different factors. You can check in then sit and wait for a while before boarding.

So that everyone does not check in at the same time. One has nothing to do with the other.

Boarding will start after everyone from the previous cruise is off and they're cleared by customs.

 

I'm a Norfolk native and usually here that means actual boarding starts around 12:00 or shortly after.

 

An earlier checkin time does mean you'll be among the first groups to board once it actually begins. And the cruise terminal is very comfortable. You can go out on the balcony areas and get some great views.
