Carnival freedom questions? Just got back from it

We were worried about being to crowded and we went in the summer. I thought it was fine. We live in a small town and you could be in the middle of things or get in less crowded areas. We were early risers and there were times in the morning you would think we were to only ones on the ship.

1)The only food that is extra price is the steakhouse and some of the items on room service. Rest is included.

2)depends which dining room you are eating at. One aft(back) one middle of ship. Anytime dining in middle also. 5th level.

3)the steward will have you just unload it and store it in your room.

4) I heard it was good but there is so much food that is included we did not go to it. The main was good so didn't feel we needed to eat there. (Make sure y'all bring business casual clothes or better for dining) they would let my son go with shorts except the first day

I just got off the Freedom on 08/20. The band in the casino was horrible. I like Latin music and I am in no way being rude with my comments. However, they had a Spanish band that sang in Spanish. It was not salsa type music at all. No one was ever dancing. It was so strange to me. Cruising on the Breeze on 09/25 and praying it isn't the same.

Does the Carnival Freedom offer cake or cupcake decorating classes like RCCL? I wanted to do it on our last cruises but they were sold out way before I could even get to the line to register. Wondered IF it was offered on Carnival and HOW one can get it booked (ahead of time would be even better)?!

We are first time cruisers and I hope the boys(16 & 52) enjoy it. We live on a farm and there is always so much to do. I have convinced them to go on this trip. They are fretting it greatly due to the amount of people and lack of quietness. We don't drink or gamble ; I just want them to have a good time. Food is very important to them. :) Unlike me, they don't read so they don't know how to relax. I did book the excursion in Cozumel for the Speed boat for them. We don't go until December but, just trying to get familiar with the Freedom.

1) Does the Fish & Chip cost extra? If so what is the cost?

2) Where is the main dining room located(which level/floor)?

3) When you do have the Steward clean out the mini fridge so I can make room for our water/pop?

4) Is the Steakhouse worth it?

5) we are also celebrating their birthdays. How do I inform the steward?

Hi @Redhot77 -

1) Does the Fish & Chip cost extra? If so what is the cost? - Cost is Free but the hours of operation is short. Mostly a lunch time event. Check the Fun Times or get the Carnival Hub App and check the restaurant serving times. It varies, the Deli is quite good and is open till 10 or 11 PM.

2) Where is the main dining room located(which level/floor)? MDR is on decks 3 and 4.

3) When you do have the Steward clean out the mini fridge so I can make room for our water/pop? First day of the trip, as soon as you meet them when you are allowed to go to your rooms. Ask them to clean out the fridge. You want it to stay open (there is an option to lock it as well).

4) Is the Steakhouse worth it? Yes, most people said it is very good. My family didn't go, we were quite happy with the Main dining room. However, we did order a steak from the steakhouse for 20 dollars and had it delivered to us in the main dining room. Only problem was there was a delay and it was lukewarm by the time it got to our table.

5) we are also celebrating their birthdays. How do I inform the steward? They will find you, most of the time on the first day or evening of the cruise. I see you've ordered birthday decorations for the cabin. We ordered anniversary decorations for our cabin on the Carnival web site from the online store and applied it to our cabin. Then when we arrived on the first day of the cruise, the room was all decorated.

I would also like to know about this or any other cooking type classes....I have a budding chef on my hands :)

The are light switches. You do not need your card for the lights. You do need a card for the safe. Use an old gift card. Not a current credit card or room key. Use something that is not active. Pick up a gift card at Walmart but don't put anything on it just get the card.

We get 2 extra casino cards from a land based casino in the same name (either me or DH). That way we each have identical cards for the safe.

Thank you for posting about the Freedom! We're booked for mid-December and there's not a whole lot of recent info posted about the ship. I'm glad to hear that the food venues never felt crowded and that the casino wasn't unbearably smoky, two things I'm concerned with. If you can think of anything else to share, please do!

I'll be on her in two days. I can let you know thoughts if you'd like. Anything in particular?

I will be sailing on the Freedom in February. I've gotten conflicting information on whether they still have the fish & chips restaurant, or if it's been replaced with a BBQ place. Maybe you could report back and settle the matter...

And if you could find some way to post pictures of the MDR menus, that would be great...

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but when we first boarded the ship the first thing I smelled was cigarette smoke. I don't know if the air filter wasn't working properly but it hit me in the face right when I boarded. Even my two traveling companions made the same comment. Also, the casino is VERY smoky and quite unbearable at times. There are some machines that say No Smoking but you could always tell when you were getting near the casino as you could smell the cigarette smoke. Besides that I had a great time on the ship and would rate the cruise 8 out of 10!

Hi RGO. Were you on the 7-day cruise that went to Cozumel (Monday), Isla Roatan (Tuesday) and Belize (Wednesday)? If so, do you remember which nights were "cruise elegant?" Thanks!

On 7 day cruises, the first elegant night is the 2nd night. I believe the second elegant night is the 5th night...
