Clodia Posted June 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2016 On Arcadia on August 7th to Iceland. Is it like Norway, where we've always taken plastic and a little cash, or is it more of a cash economy where i should order some in advance?
kruzseeka Posted June 16, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 16, 2016 (edited) On Arcadia on August 7th to Iceland. Is it like Norway, where we've always taken plastic and a little cash, or is it more of a cash economy where i should order some in advance? We've been to Iceland a couple of times and not used local currency. We found our Halifax Clarity card was accepted in cafés in Reykjavik, at the Blue Lagoon and we paid in Euros to go up the tower of the Cathedral. We used our card for entry to the Heritage Museum in Isafjordur and at a café. We did a full day trip at Akureyri so don't remember shopping there. LondonTowner Posted June 16, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 16, 2016 We just used our CCs with no foreign transaction charges. Didn't need any local currency.
Pete B Posted June 16, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 16, 2016 Agree with the other posters. By all means, take a little cash just for piece of mind, but it`s no problem to even buy a coffee with a CC. As another person mentioned, the Halifax card is great because it does not incur charges. Beware using a debit card though. You will be charged for every transaction. Iceland rocks by the way ! Best nplace EVER......:D
passiontotravel Posted June 17, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2016 They accept credit cards in most places in Iceland. The Iceland krona is the accepted cash of choice. We used both while travelling here.
