What to do with bags before boarding in Venice

We are sailing on the Queen Victoria from Venice Aug. 20. We will be at the port about 9 am but just got our boarding time today, which is 2:30 pm. Does anyone know if we can safely leave the bags with someone for a few hours? Will they let us check them in sooner? Thanks

There is a left luggage place at Piazzale Roma. Failing that there is another in the train station over the footbridge from P.Roma.
