meatloafsfan Posted July 20, 2016 Author #40 Share Posted July 20, 2016 Are the Fun Times no longer tear off? No - these no longer have the tear off. They are a tri fold and each individual section is the same width of the old tear off piece. Above - pictures 1 and 3 of the funtimes are the individual sections and pictures 2 and 4 are double sections. I used the Hub app on the ship and really liked it - found it much more convenient than the old paper stuff. The only issue was that there was a problem with the Android version (which I was using) where the times for several things were incorrect (and Schwartz made multiple announcements apologizing about the Android issues). meatloafsfan Posted July 21, 2016 Author #45 Share Posted July 21, 2016 Well, that's all of my scans. I have a few pictures that I'll be uploading and will probably post. I know there are a couple of reviews going on right now of our cruise so I won't be doing a big in depth review but a few notes: The food in the MDR was good but not as good as on the 21 nights in January / February (the back to back Journey cruises we did on the Pride in 2016). Everything was just a little less well cooked. If I had to guess, I'd say that the Pride has probably had a change over in the kitchen with new staff. You could tell that they were executing the menu and recipes as written, they just didn't really know how to do it extremely well. For instance, the fried shrimp appetizer - earlier this year they were plump and the breading was thick and tender; this time, the breading was drier and not plumped up (it was tight against the shrimp and I have no doubt that before frying, the batter was thin). The braised rabbit was more acidic, the sauce was just a little off. That being said, we were well fed for the week and there were lots of great choices. If we hadn't done the journey cruises, we probably wouldn't think anything was wrong. The deli, guys, blue iguana, pizza, buffet, salad bar, and chopsticks were just as good as before. Very tasty and I found the temperature of the food consistently hot. Room service was actually better this time than last. One afternoon, my mom was napping so my dad and I sat in my cabin and watched a movie - we ordered room service and he had a great Rueben sandwich. I ordered my usual tuna sandwich as it was just as good as I remember from 2011-2012 (I had found in the last couple of trips that the tuna had been changed to a lesser quality but this time it was back to normal). The potato salad is still the newer crappy version but the chips were actually crispy and the pretzels were good. We also had the chocolate cake - it's now a firmer cake with less icing (which my dad preferred) and a chocolate ganache topping. I also had a turkey sandwich and BLT (I put them together for a club sandwich) and both were well filled, fresh and tasty. There were a number of activities on the cruise - many trivia's, the playlist shows, crafts (once - it was making braided bracelets), 4 comedians, etc. Average for what Carnival offers. I will say that they seem to be upping their partnership with Hasbro - there were connect 4 tournaments, trivial pursuit (with big pieces), lots of games in the card room and the Hasbro show twice during the 7 days (one night and one afternoon). I found that the late movies were difficult to get to with late dining. My dad skipped dinner in the MDR one night to see Batman vs Superman and my mother and I didn't see any movies because the timing just didn't work out. We did rent 2 movies off the tv ($4.99 each which I consider very reasonable) "Hail, Caesar" and "Deadpool". Very easy process and something we find enjoyable. Spent a lot of time in the casino. Had a bit of luck early on (no handpays but decent wins); my mother didn't so I funneled some money to her. I was sent a bottle of wine by the casino on night 5 and then cookies on day 6 (weird that the wine came before the cookies). For the wine there was a card in my mailbox which listed my selections; I just needed to turn that into our servers and they had no problem getting me my bottle of Moscato. My birthday was at the end of June and my mother's is tomorrow. We both received cards from Carnival - I received $25 towards a bottle of wine and a free photo from Pixels; my mother received both of those plus a $50 spa credit. I was hoping she could use it for a haircut but they said that it had to be the deluxe package that includes the scalp massage, and hair treatment at a cost of $168 minus the $50. Since we're not spa people, that went unused. We both got a bottle of Funj 5 (value in MDR $25). I was expecting to pay the 18% gratuity but was charged nothing. We had good servers though the one (Orlando) was a little odd - one night he didn't come to talk to us at all and let one of the others do everything (though he was chatting up the other tables around us). Still, everything was good, hot, correct, and served with a smile. Our room steward was also very good. He was quick and efficient. My parents asked for and received twice a day service while I requested and received once a day service (though he came by each morning to ask if I needed clean towels or ice). No problems at all getting what we wanted (blankets, towels, ice, biohazard bags, sharps container, etc). Overall, it was a smooth cruise - in both weather, seas and service. crusinpsychRN Posted July 22, 2016 #50 Share Posted July 22, 2016 I sailed Legend many times and found the food not so good. People here said the lasagna was so good just to name one thing. I didn't like it as it had some strange taste to it. No one at my table liked it. Went again and thought I'd try it again and it was delicious! Had a thought and asked if the chef was new and he was. All that time the food wasn't so good due to the chef. All the things I hadn't liked were suddenly good. Maybe that's what happened on your trip.
