Kim84 Posted July 22, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2016 Hi guys, We're staying at Disney for a week before heading off on a RC cruise from Port Canaveral. Does anyone know of any accessible transfers (travel in wheelchair) that would pick us up from our Disney resort and take us straight to Port Canaveral? I understand we could take Disney's Magical Express back to Orlando International and get a Mears Shuttle from there if need be, but would like something with less messing about if its possible.. Thanks!
Wheeling TravelingMom Posted July 22, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2016 We have found renting a car to be easiest. Our family member with a chair is not the driver.
DisneyKidsDad Posted July 22, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 22, 2016 There are also wheelchair accessible taxis that can be called for you at the resorts. Just not sure if that would be too expensive.
Algebralovr Posted August 1, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 1, 2016 Have you contacted Mears directly? They can probably pick you up from the Disney site.
kitty9 Posted August 2, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 2, 2016 Are you sure the Magical Express doesn't take you from the resort directly to Port Canaveral? Or are you not on a Disney cruise? We're Disney Vacation Club members and we've seen cruisers boarding the bus to go on the cruise and didn't have to go to the airport-----unless they've changed their policy recently. I too have taken the Disney Cruise bus from a Disney resort to the cruise terminal. But I believe you have to have a land and sea package. That's what we had at the time. Kim84 Posted August 2, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted August 2, 2016 Thanks guys! Despite a few companies suggesting they may be able to do it, when it comes to booking they all seem to be unable to confirm accessible vehicles so Mears is looking like the best option at this time. We're cruising with Royal Caribbean for the first time having previously cruised with Disney. I understand Magical Express is run by Mears so fingers crossed it runs as smoothly when travelling with them directly.
Kim84 Posted September 26, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted September 26, 2016 Figured I would update this for anyone who may find the info useful. After much going back and forth between our travel agent and Royal Caribbean - they have finally offered an accessible transfer from Orlando International Airport to Port Canaveral and back again. $150 for 2 of us. It will mean making our own way to the airport, but with Disney's Magical Express or a Mears cab that should be easy enough. We travel on the first Oasis sailing from Port Canaveral in November so will update again to let others know how reliable the RCI accessible transfer is (or isn't!) :p

Was RCCL accommodating and sent shuttle with lift? Did it go smoothly or were there any problems?

Was RCCL accommodating and sent shuttle with lift? Did it go smoothly or were there any problems? Booked accessible transfers this past March through RCCL round trip from Orland Airport to Port Canaveral. Everything went fine. The important thing to know is that when booking RCCL's transfers you have to make certain to specify "Accessible Transfers" otherwise RCCL will just show you as having booked only standard transfers.
