They have a joining room attached to my parents and we made sure the balcony was one that opens as well.

Joining as in next door to each other or joining as in connecting with a door between the two rooms? If the rooms are connecting there is a good chance the dividers will not open but it does depend on the class of ship. You might want to double check. Sail date is not the time for surprises.

 

As you have been told the bathroom does have a step. This is the issue for mom when we cruise. She can't step up.

I think you'll make great memories with your family on this cruise, and I hope everything works out for the best.

 

As a last resort ... I think I could be available to cruise that week, and I don't particularly care for catamarans! ;)
