Getaway in Rio

The Getaway is coming back home to Miami today. Interestingly, it only takes 7 days to get back and it took 10 days to get to Rio. I am in no way a mariner so I can only suppose it has to do with the currents and wind and such.

I may be wrong but the Getaway was still in Rio yesterday...maybe it's docking in Miami a week from today

I did not phrase it correctly. Ranger you are correct. The Getaway left Rio today (Monday) around 4 pm headed back to Miami. My son is on the ship. He said that it would take 7 days to get to Miami as opposed to the 10 days it took to get to Rio from Miami. I am not sure of the exact date they get back. Probably I would think in time to load up again on August 28 and head towards the Caribbean.

Thanks for the photos. We will be on the Getaway in December over Christmas and are excited to see the ship. How fantastic that the crew got some free time in Rio! How fun to do the cruise back from Rio. I love Rio but this would probably not be the best time to be vacationing there.

She is sailing northward with 1100 passengers.

Arrives in Miami on Friday September 2nd. Does a 2 night cruise and then Her regular schedule on Sunday September 4th.

Just heard from my son. He was mistaken, it is an 11 day cruise back to Miami and then a short cruise to Nassau before resuming their normal schedule.

I guess the entertainers are often the last to know.

They do MDQ on August 30th for the first time in awhile. Back to rehearsals!

We were on the Getaway from Miami to Rio. We only had 736 people on board. It was wonderful. No waiting for anything, Pool chairs available all the time. Great entertainment. Loved MDQ and Burn the Floor. We could not do the return to Miami due to previous arrangements, but would have in a heartbeat. Everyday had activities, probably fewer than usual, but plenty to keep you busy. At night, 3 comp restaurants and a few pay restaurants were always open. Food was available 24/7. Service was very good. Nothing to complain about. The Casino was open most of the time. Certain outdoor activities had limited hours, such as the rock climbing wall and the ropes. Nice ship, but our mini suite had a very small balcony.

We love sea days, so couldn't possibly have a bad time. Our ship had about 250 Americans/Canadians. Most of the others were from Brazil, so all announcements were in two languages.

I'm sure everyone is having a great time!

Ellen
