On Board Credit

Sorry if this has been asked a million times before. I have done searches here and on the Carnival website and haven't found anything newer than 2013 (been looking for a while) and I am not sure if anything has changed. I have two OBCs going to my S&S acct. One from CCL for a booking "perk" (had I known that they up the fare ~$100 for a $50 OBC I would have gone with the less exp fare:rolleyes:). The other is from a TA for transferring my booking to them. Now for the question:

What can't this be used for? I am getting the Cheers program and in the past I have done some playing in the Casino. GF will want pictures

Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been asked to death before.

OBC is exactly that, credit to your on board account. The only condition with OBC is some is non refundable. As you make purchases with your S&S card the OBC will be used before either the cash deposit or CC you opened your on board account. You can even use it in the casino!

Thank you springs741, exactly the help I needed.

Yeah, exactly that...

Now, VALBS, what's this about this OBC for transferring to a TA?? Is that the norm? I'm interested in maybe doing it.

I haven't cruised in a few years and was researching any "perks" with it. After reading a few article about using a TA, I saw one about the OBC. I called an Agency and they are offering OBC based on the price of the cruise. I had been working with a PvP with CCL and know they are evaluated on production. So I felt bad about not booking with him. A told me to book with Carnival then transfer to them (done by giving the TA my booking number and pin). Then a week before the cruise the TA will send an OBC certificate to me and advise Carnival of the OBC and have it added to my S&S acct. If there is an issue then I can call the TA and she will straighten it out before sailing. I will also have the cert. Basically the Travel Agencies get a % for booking or handling cruises for customers. The OBC is part of that commission. I paid the deposit with CCL and the TA sets up for the final payment a few days before it is due. I didn't have to give the TA my Credit card number and she will take it when we set up final payment. The only "downside" I learned is that once the reservation is Xferred to the TA, CCL cannot help you with the booking and will have to go through the TA. That is how I got OBC from CCL and OBC from the TA.

Does anyone know how they handle the OBC when there are 2 separate sign and sail accounts? Does it get split up or all go to one person?

Cruisermomx3, here you go. Hope this helps. https://www.carnival.com/cruise-deals/cruise-specials/terms looks like if one cabin with 2 S&S Accts then it is split. Mine is OBC for the cabin as GF and I have one acct.

Oohh, ok, thanks!

Being that we're paid in full with Early Saver, I guess it's probably not worth it at this point then. Unless it was like a few hundred $$ OBC.

Welcome back to the cruising world!!!

NewAddict, for my October Cruise I booked I had to pay all at once. I called my TA the day after booking and CCL said no to the Xfer. She told me this and I called CCL and they Xferred it to her. Don't know if it will work in your case but worst they can say is no.
