We are 4 adults 2 of whom are regular cruisers and the other 2 first timers we are contemplating taking this cruise, but would like some clarification on dress especially with respect to formal evenings which Im sure will be in abundance on this 55 night cruise.

Whilst we regularly cruise on RCL we do not dress for the beach when going for dinner, but we have heard that if you do not retain your formal dress for the entire evening then you might find yourself excluded from certain areas of the ship, predominantly the theatre and various bars. Could somebody elucidate on this please.

Some guidelines would be useful as to what attire for men and women are deemed acceptable. Formal, lounge suit, Country club casual, etc and the guideline for kadies also.

Whilst we appreciate that a degree of decorum should be retained is it verging on Victorian principles or are we in the 21st century?

Im apologise in advance if this subject has been covered in the past and if so if I can be directed to the debate so that I could be answered would be appreciated.

Sure someone will come on with the specifics but it is not that bad.

On formal nights if you want to eat in main dining room then men would need to wear a dark suit and tie but doesn't have to be a tuxedo. Ladies do not have to wear long dress and can wear a dress, smart skirt or trousers and top. If you don't want to dress up you can eat in buffet and can go into theatre and several bars but a few bars do insist on the men's suits in bars.

earlier this year we were on Aurora on the Brisbane to Hong Kong leg. On the first or second formal night we had, there was an announcement in the theatre to say that casual wear was not acceptable in the theatre on formal nights. There were a couple of Oz types who had tshirts and thongs (flip flops). :) For most Aussies, that is formal wear.!! mummsie

Yes, I know didn't want to go that far but have seen people in theatre and buffet in the evening on formal nights wearing shorts, t shirts and flip flops and a lot of tutting going on understandably. Even a sign in buffet saying in evenings must wear trousers and shoes didn't stop them. Glad to hear that P&O are trying to deal with this issue.

Don't have to wear tux and long dresses as said previously but do need to wear trousers and shoes or sandals in case of ladies.
