Adman Posted October 31, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2005 Does anyone know, if I were to bring my XM Satellite Radio on my cruise, would it work? Thanks, Adam
BornOnTheBeach Posted October 31, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2005 As long as you have a clear view of the southern sky you should have no problem. But in an inside stateroom it would not work as the signal can not penetrate the hull of the ship.
Gimpster Posted October 31, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2005 You should get a signal down to 'mid-Caribbean' but farther south than that, probably not. Its a little better further south in the western Caribbean.

Gimpster Posted October 31, 2005 #6 Share Posted October 31, 2005 Adman, go here: http://satelliteradio.digitalinsurrection.com/xm_radio.php About halfway down the page is a footprint map. Its not been updated since the launch of the third satellite, but it should be close to the current reality.
Airb330 Posted October 31, 2005 #7 Share Posted October 31, 2005 Adman, go here: http://satelliteradio.digitalinsurrection.com/xm_radio.php About halfway down the page is a footprint map. Its not been updated since the launch of the third satellite, but it should be close to the current reality. The 3rd satellite didn't add any additional coverage iirc. I wonder how Sirius does? All I know is their 3 satellites rotate giving better outdoor coverage at times, but less stable overall...as you can have coverage there one day (if sat is overhead) then nothing if it's blocked behind trees hours later. Blah....that's why I chose XM.
IggleDoer Posted November 2, 2005 #8 Share Posted November 2, 2005 We took a Sirius radio on the Constellation New England/Canada cruise. We were on the 8th floor with an overhang from the 10th floor. We never got a signal, even in New York City.
