timonier Posted October 31, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2005 I'm hopeless at reading maps and even get lost in cities with numbered streets so are there any "old salts" among you who can make sense out of what the next week holds for those departing on the 11/1 crossing out of NY. Here are some links to sites people have recommeded in the past http://www.oceanweather.org/data/ http://polar.ncep.noaa.gov/waves/lat...w3_at.anim.gif https://www.fnmoc.navy.mil/PUBLIC/WAM/wam.html http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/cruiseships.phtml

timonier Posted November 2, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted November 2, 2005 I'm not traveling until later, but I wanted to get a better idea of how to read these.
2moose Posted November 3, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 3, 2005 I'm not traveling until later, but I wanted to get a better idea of how toread these. the lines on the map either straight or circular or irregular are in effect a topography map showing wave heights and/or direction(also color coded on some maps) an occasional number (i.e. 12 or 28 or 6 ) indicates the height of the wave either in feet or meters, at least this is my basic undersatanding , i'm sure it's more complicated then im stating , bon voyage. not to worry 'BACCHUS HATH DROWNED MORE MEN THEN NEPTUNE' bon voyage
