TizaR Posted August 30, 2018 #26 Share Posted August 30, 2018 I initially wrote up a whole response without realizing the thread was that old.

Giantfan13 Posted September 1, 2018 #28 Share Posted September 1, 2018 So, for those that are taking a cruise like this this year. Portland. We found the city pretty dull, but we have been there several times on our own. If you are into lighthouses, there are at least 5 within a 30 minute trip of Portland, by car. I think they have a light house tour, but if you could rent a car it would be so much easier. The Portland Head Light is a picture postcard from any angle. Ourselves, just can't understand why people would waste a port day going to LL Bean? Bar Harbor-If you have the time, get to Acadia National park. You can do the free bus, or do Ollies tours which are very popular. If you want to just hang around town, if you get to Bar Harbor at low tide, you can walk across the ocean floor to Bar Island, about a 1/4 mile walk. It is truly fascinating to walk where there can be 30 feet of water at high tide. They sound a horn when the tide starts to come in so you know it's time to get back. Halifax--again car rental to Peggy's Cove. Just a very nice drive and wonderful picturesque place. We also did a tour of the citadel and a stop at the gravesites of many of the dead from the Titanic. We found this fascinating. St Johns-we were so disappointed in this 'reversing rapids'. Just a big nothing. If you can get to the caves at low tide, that is a good tour, but otherwise, I found nothing especially interesting here. Hope this helps Cheers Len
