Alicante on a Sunday

Will any shops be open on a Sunday in Alicante? We hoped to buy a pair of moderately priced leather shoes. I believe that they are made in Spain which would be great as many shoes in Canada now are made in China. It would be impossible to find a pair of shoes made in Spain.

I seriously doubt it, Sundays are festive in the whole of Spain. Period.

 

This is not to say that (1) some shops, mostly kiosks, souvenirs etc can be open on Sundays in certain cities and (2) each autonomous community (sort of 'state', in which Spain is administratively divided) has its own calendar of festive days in which shops are allowed to open (ie. sales, special dates...)

The majority of shops will be closed. The market stalls along the sea front may be open but the tenants in there are gypsies, supported by the government which is killing off local retail.

 

Sorry, bit of a bone of contention locally.

Hello Cruizann. A few tourist shops may be open and there may be some stalls along the Promenade open.

You may wish to see if your ship offers an excursion to Elche which often includes a visit to a leather place.

Failing that, (time dependant) you could see if you could hire a car with sat nav and visit one of the Sunday markets.

Aguas de Busot, Benidorm (Rastro), Busot, Elche (Plaza del Raval handicrafts market), La Alguena, La Matanza, La Murada de los Vicentes, La Nucia (Rastro), Pedreguer (Rastro) and Torremanzanas.
