Cabanas -dinner

Can I ask, can you go and have dinner in Cabanas at any time? Or is it used as one of the rotational dining rooms?

We were thinking about going on Fantasy next year 7 nights then a week at Beach Club, instead of our usual 2 weeks at Yacht/Beach but when cruising we like My time dining & generally always eat in the buffet rather than dining rooms but from what I can see that isn't possible on DCL, am I correct?

Cabanas is not used as an MDR but an optional restaurant for evening meals for those that prefer a MTD concept.

It will have a selection of meals from the regular MDR's and is a sit down full service meal not a buffet of an evening.

So yes, show up within the times it is open and be shown to a seat by a server and enjoy your meal!

Be aware though that Cabanas is not open on the first or last night of your cruise, and the evening shows in the WDT are timed around service times in the MDR's, so that is something to be aware of.

Show times will be in your Personal Navigator each day.

You basically understand it. Cabanas for dinner is not a buffet, it is a sit down menu service with no reservations needed. The menu is a bit more restricted than the rotational dining rooms. As noted, they select 4-5 entrees from the MDRs, and usually have a "carved item" and a salad bar available as well. You are welcome to review the menu before you decide whether to eat there or not.

You can show up any time during the open hours. We've never had to wait for a table. In our experience, food and service were both excellent.

I agree that the MDR hours are timed around the shows, but the early show is typically over by 7:30 and dinner doesn't start till 8:15....if you are hungry, 7:30 at Cabanas might be great. We used it the first time when we returned from a long excursion and didn't want to wait till our scheduled late seating. Since then, it has become one of those great options for some nights.

have you ever been on a disney cruise?

the rotational dining rooms are a bit of the fun...

going to cabanas, you miss out on it..

to me, it's part of what you're paying for - the rotational dining...

In general, I agree with Beth and we rarely miss rotational dining....but we've done cruises of 24 and 26 nights (B2Bs) which means that the dinners will be repeats and since we were in the Med, excursions put us at odd times. And sometimes when the ship is in port late, there is no show scheduled. Cabanas is a nice alternative for those occasions, particularly when you come in all hot and sweaty. A quick shower and casual clothing (we don't wear shorts and t-shirts to the dining room although it is now allowed), and a trip to Cabanas were we ate and watched the sunset was perfect.

First DCL cruise--I wouldn't miss the dining rooms.
