Mercury Fitness Center

I assume use of the fitness center (weights, etc.) is for adults only? My 15-year old son wants to know if he can use the gym on our upcoming cruise. If not alone, can he use if he's with me?

We were on the Mercury in April. I believe that the age limit for the gym was 16 years old and up. I'm not sure how strict they are in enforcing it. If he looks older than 15, they might not bother to check.

He'll be almost sixteen and could probably pass. We could give it a shot - what's the worst they could do? Throw us overboard? Thanks!

Another question: What kinds of machines, etc. are available in the gym on the Mercury? We just got off the Oosterdam and there were a range of Cybex machines, treadmills, bikes, stair climbers, free weights and so forth.

Hi, Bryanwal - I was on the Mercury last October, and used the gym every day. Being an older, slightly smaller ship, the gym area is not nearly as large as on the Oosterdam, but still pretty well laid out. There are treadmills facing the front windows, and more treadmills along with bicycles, steppers and elliptical trainers against the side windows. There are dumbells only up to 35 lbs, and two benches that are bolted to the floor in an awkward position. There are selectorized machines that aren't great (I think they were Nautilus brand?). There are also two rowing machines.

The aerobics area is carpeted, and has plenty of mats for ab work, along with some Swiss balls.
