Hello everyone. My husband and I will be going on our first cruise on the Carnival Miracle this December. We will be on the 6 day Mexican Rivera cruise. Any tips or advise for us such as what to pack, alcohol hotels offering day passes in puerto Vallarta and Cabo. Thank you in advance.

Congrats!

Here's a good start for packing list from the Carnival page:

What also helped us on our most recent cruise is we joined another site's Roll Call group of people on the same cruise.

Congrats! Beware, DH and I went on our first cruise (although it was on RCCL) for our Honeymoon 15 years ago and we have been cruising regularly ever since!

You may be hooked and obsessed so be prepared. You learn very quickly on your first cruise what you like and what you would do different next time.

A few tips:

1) if you want to try to get a private table in the dinning room for dinner for the week, email the maitre'd for you ship (2 - 3 weeks ahead) that it is your honeymoon and request a private table for 2 (unless you want to eat at a larger table with others).

2) You can store most empty suitcases under the bed to keep them out of the way.

3) Pull up the deck layout for your ship (I print off the decks we use the most and the deck with our cabin) and find you cabin then review the decks to become familiar with your ship ahead of time. Saves a little time and confusion when locating cabin with regards to stairs and elevators, restaurants, bars, clubs, shops, casino etc.

4) If you need extra time in the bathroom to get ready, send your husband up to the gym/spa to use the nice big showers and facilities for him to get ready. It helps to have the 2 separate areas for both of you to use as the cabin's and baths are small (unless you have a suite with the extra dressing room area). My husband and son use the gym showers and dressing areas regularly to get ready so that I have the cabin to myself.

5) If you need coffee first thing in morning and cannot wait to get dressed and run up to lido yourself, order coffee the night before (there is a card you can fill out and put on the door knob) from room service (order for 2 and it come in a carafe), you can then use the carafe to refill when you run up to lido. Room service is free (although keep some $1 bills around for tip) and will be your best friend first thing in the morning.

6) Relax and go with the flow and enjoy yourself!

First, congratulations. I don't know how much you travel, but the key to any successful vacation is to "go with the flow." We see so many people post on these boards with anger and frustration at rough seas, cancelled ports etc; that can happen on any cruise, so as long as you have a good attitude, you will have a wonderful trip!

Congrats on your wedding! In Cabo we did the RIU AI resort. Loved every minute of it!

In PV a good excursion is Las Caletas, an AI Island. The day tour is fun and the night tour is romantic. For a honeymoon, I would probably do the night time one!

My husband and I were on the Miracle in August and I am going again in March. We loved this ship! The people are what make it so special!

Although it wasn't our first cruise, my husband and I just returned from our honeymoon on the Splendor and I can offer a few tips about honeymooning and the alcohol question. :)

1. Let people (the crew) know it is your honeymoon.

2. This will particularly help with the question about alcohol. We actually had to pack some of our bottles to bring them home. We had guest services buy us a drink one night, John Heald sent us champagne and strawberries, we also ended up winning a bottle of champagne in a trivia game.

3. As to saving on those drinks! We have done it several ways in the past. Buying a la carte, buying Cheers and so forth but we think we really figured it out last time. We each brought on a favorite bottle of wine. We also had a bottle of vodka and a bottle of gin sent to the room with some sodas for mixers. Between the 3 bottles of gifted champagne, 2 bottles of wine and 2 bottles of liquor, we were more than set and saved so much!

Congratulations! I will be on the Miracle the following sailing. One tip of advice I can give you is to not try and see everything the first day. Take your time and enjoy the little things that make cruising fun! I really hope you enjoy your first cruise, and hope that you fall in love with cruising just like I have!

Congratulations on your nuptials! If you or your husband are into the craft beer scene, there is a craft brewery in Cabo next to the mall. It's within walking distance from the port. I believe it's called Baja Brewing. Good beer, good food, relatively inexpensive. It's a nice chill place to sit outside and people watch while enjoying some libations.
