Miami International Airport Hotel?

I will be arriving in Miami the night before my cruise around 6 or 7ish.

I thought why get off the plane and into a cab to a hotel and then into another cab the next morning to the ship? There is a hotel right there in the airport and I can just pay the flat rate for a cab to the ship the next morning.

Has anyone stayed there before? Whats your take on the property?

I don't care about seeing Miami the evening before I can do that anytime.

Thanks.

Ok, I used to stay at the MIA regularly in the late 1990's, and it was great-pool and gym on the roof, restaurant-not a place I would stay a week, but cool for a long lay over or one night. I used to go back and forth to Jamaica from LAX, and always had like a 6-8 hour layover in Miami from 5:00am until late afternoon, so I always stayed at the MIA. Went swimming, had breakfast, took a shower, perfect!!!

however-

in July 2003 my whole family and I had 3 rooms booked for a pre-cruise overnight-we got there at like 7:00pm-the first room smelled like smoke (said non-smoking) so we asked for another-the second was musty and moldy, then the third was actually dripping water puddles from the AC. It was downright gross, and I am not a picky person, especially for a 12 hour pre-cruise overnight. But it was not even tolerable for one night-just plain dirty and nasty. We left, never checked in, and went to a very nice Marriott down the street. We were lucky to get in on a Saturday night with no reservation!!

I have no idea if they have made improvements at the MIA between 2003 and now, but for me, never again!!

sorry :(

Yes, I made the mistake of staying in that dump not long ago when I had an early flight. It's a horrible, nasty, filthy DUMP!!! The carpet in the room was so worn it was down to it's backing and slick from the dirt. The windows were so dirty I couldn't see out them, that was after I got covered in dust from opening the blinds. It's one of the very worst "hotels" I've ever been in. It's one of those where you don't take your shoes off and sleep fully dressed!

I now primarily use the Hilton when I have early flights, and they have a free airport shuttle so you can still shuttle over there and get the flat rate MIA to Port of Miami fare. These are all nice airport hotels...

Well that was an easy decision. Hilton it is then.

I would think that with all of the business travelers that the MIA airport hotel clean up their act. (No pun intended) Or was it?

Thanks guys.

But if anyone has a different view that is more recent I am willing to listen other than that, no thanks!

I don't understand that MIA airport hotel at all. I would think one of the major chains would take it over. It definitely needs to be gutted and completely rebuilt, but the location is perfect, and it would be so so convenient if it wasn't such a dump. You literally can step out of the elevator and walk a few feet to the ticket counters. In it's present state though it's an embarassment to Miami! :(

You'll like the Hilton, it's one of the nicer airport hotels I've ever been in. It doesn't even seem like one, it's more like a resort with the lakes surrounding it.
