Suggestions for hotels in Fremantle

First time to Australia and flying into Perth and considering staying overnight in Fremantle prior to cruising. Any suggestions/recommendations for reasonable hotel(s) in and around Fremantle?

The esplanade hotel in Fremantle is in a great location we loved it

We stayed at Hougoumont a couple of weeks ago before boarding a cruise. Rooms aren't huge, but are very nice and modern. Communications in the lead up to the stay were good, the staff there were fantastic and it was a nice easy walk to the port from the hotel.

The esplanade hotel in Fremantle is in a great location we loved it

 

 

We had a couple of nights at the Esplanade pre-cruise back in Sep. Happy to recommend. Close to some good restaurants and the National Hotel (good beer drinking and bands!!) on the main drag and within walking distance to maritime museum etc. Handy to train station for a trip into Perth etc also.

 

Ferry over to Rottnest Is is not far away just down river a bit from the cruise terminal.

I also stayed at the Hougoumont and can agree with all sir-magoo stated. I flew in from Sydney and got a taxi to the hotel and then the next day walked to the port, easy wheeling of luggage.
