What to do in Freeport?

We were in Freeport 2 years ago. There are several small food huts and shops right when you get off the ship. So if your just looking for shopping and food/drinks-there is plenty right there. We did not book an excursion at this port. When we arrived we purchase some coconut water. They take fresh coconut and drill a hole in it, then place a straw-my son loved it. We were more interested in the beach so we bought a package at the port that provided an air-conditioned bus ride to a beautiful beach. It was about a 30 minute ride. Afterwards we did some shopping at the port and ate at Senior Frogs which is also right at port.

(food was not great and it was pricey but fun atmosphere).

Hope this helps. My only advise is if you plan to venture out past the port I would highly recommend purchasing a package or excursions. The areas between the port and the beach we went past did not look safe!

We stopped there for the 1st time in Oct. 2016. The port is in an industrial area so not very scenic. There is a shopping area right off the dock which is safe with a Senor Frogs and few other small eating areas and booths. The shops are nothing to get excited about - local vendors with lots of made in China souvenirs - so that was disappointing. We were warned not to wander away from this secure shopping area on our own. We are considering another cruise that stops in Freeport but we will probably just stay on the ship.

What was included in the pkg besides the bus ride? Do you recall how much it cost per person? TIA

A taxi to Lucayan National Park is the #1 thing to do in Freeport in my opinion. The immediate area around the port doesn't offer much. You have to get outside of that area to see the good parts of Freeport.

I will be in Freeport for 1/2 day - do you think that's enough time to see the Park? Also, how did you arrange for taxi back to port?

I've heard taking a taxi can be expensive. It's about a 45 minute ride if I remember correctly. Some recommend just renting a car and going. That's usually about $80-100 for the day. You can get picked up if you book a tour through a company like http://calabashecoadventures.com . They provide transport from the ship and have different tours. The sightseeing takes about 6 hours so plan to be gone all day.

Aside from an area near the pier, there is the option of taking a van taxi

ride to Our Lucaya which has many shops, restaurants, and a casino plus a nice resort across the street. It was only $5 pp each way and a good way to see part of the island without much walking.
