We went last year when we were in Cancun for a week. We had a family group of 12 people, so we hired a private van and guide. Well worth it, but we left our hotel around 7am and got back around 4 pm I think - with a stop for lunch.

 

If I were doing this from a cruise, I would absolutely book it through the cruise line (which I don't normally do) because of the distance.

 

Well worth seeing, though.

Flying gets my vote too. Did it a couple of years ago, got there before the crowds, left just as they arrived. Pilot did a fly over of the site too. Back at the port for 3pm.

 

Mind you, those thermals coming of the jungle on the return trip gave you something for to think about [emoji41]
