SqueakyDust Posted November 10, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2005 Does Barbados 'dress up' it's shops/towns for Christmas, if so how early? Or has the commercialism not hit there yet?
Sunniebgi Posted November 11, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2005 May Shops do Dress up for the holidays. and commercialism is rampant. As our Independence Day is 30Nov, the country usually dresses in Blue and Gold/Yellow (the colours of the flag) for the month of November and then from December 1st they colours and theme goes to Christmas. However, having said that I do know of at least a couple of shops that have their Christmas decorasions up already. Some stores have had Christmas items for sale for at least the last 2 to 3 weeks as well.
SqueakyDust Posted November 12, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted November 12, 2005 Thanks Sunnie - so they're no different from the UK then!!
Sunniebgi Posted November 12, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 12, 2005 The difference would be in the vastness of it all. The decorations are there, but not in every store. and unfortunately some of the stuff looks very cheap. They are also very aware that Independence, this time of year, is much more important than Christmas.. it's only been in the last few years that stores have starting putting any displays etc up before December 1st. Thank goodness the music hasn't started, but I dare say it will soon... (don't get me wrong.. I like Christmas Music, but .. well when it's Christmas not before)
